Hello all. I previously had an iPhone 12, it was flat on the back, so I would get in the car and throw it on the charging pad, it was really convenient. Yesterday I got this 16 pro with cameras that stick out a few mm and it won’t lay flat, so it won’t charge, anybody have a solution?
Thanks

MagSafe case. The cases have the charging magnets built in and transfer the charging capabilities, while evening out the bump from the cameras allowing the phone to lay flatter.

this is a known issue and there is a service bulletin to "supposedly" correct this. I have a iPhone 14 with the raised camera and it doesn't have any issues charging in my GMC Sierra.

This,

Or make some sort of plastic shim (which is what the case does for you), or get out the grinder and make those camera bumps smooth!

stop using the crappy wireless pad, it charges slow, and over heats the phone anyway.
Yup, this exactly. The wireless charger is junk and basically just turns your phone into an oven. Plus the heat will shorten your battery life long term. I’d love to just disable it but there doesn’t seem to be a way to, even with pulling fuses

I wish it did, these cameras stick out so far that the case is bumped out, just around the cameras. these cameras are big

The phone actually shows in CarPlay that it is charging but it is actually just getting really hot. So if I can’t even store my phone there, it just bakes it.

I have an iPhone 12 as well the case lets it lay flat on the pad.

But I have the same trouble it’s hard to find a good spot that it will charge continuously. Mostly mine fires the Dane just seems to overheat the phone.

I have an old rubber mat, about 1/8" thick. I took out the plastic tray over the charger, and cut a first rubber piece to fit within the tray. I then reinstalled the tray with the mat insert. The extra space from the mat attenuates the electromagnetic coupling so I can now place my phone or wallet in the charging tray without any inductive heating. To be safe, I cut an extra piece so I have about 1/4" of spacing from the original tray surface.

Just got a 16 and tested. Starts charging right away on mine with an anker case:

As others mentioned though, look into other options if you're using magsafe anyway. I have this set up which charges and lets me actually see my phone screen. I also get to use that area where the pad is as a storage bin.
