Canada you are limited to 2watts.
Yes not many people are using GMRS on the roads but it is getting more popular. Midland is pushing channel 19.

I put in a GRMS so i have a way to communicate when cell phone coverage is limited, but usually only use it when I am iin a group.

I have a bracket to temporarily install mine for the times I think I might need a CB.

Go ahead and try a CB, just don't buy a set of color matching floor mats or something to make up for the $$ spent on the CB and antenna.

'haven't heard anything useful with my CB lately, but am still putting it in for most drives out of the usual (the usual Starbucks or Nordstrom trips ). I'm still working on my quick 2-day GMRS antenna install (for 3 months now)

Before I ask folks here, I'm going to do a search for SWR meter advice for CB and GMRS.

From Mr. Google:
'Yes, Canadians can use GMRS radios, but with significant differences and restrictions compared to the US, and only certain radios are legal. In Canada, only GMRS-compatible devices that are approved for license-free use are permitted, which are typically lower-powered, 2-watt radios, and repeaters are not allowed. Higher-powered US models are not legal for use in Canada.

'Canadian vs. US regulations

  • Power: In Canada, the power is limited to 2 watts for GMRS/FRS radios, whereas the US allows for higher wattage with a license.
  • Licensing: There is no license required for low-power GMRS use in Canada, but higher-powered radios are illegal. In the US, a license is mandatory for higher-powered GMRS radios.
  • Repeaters: Repeaters are not permitted in Canada, making it illegal to use them for extending range.
  • Radio approval: Only Industry Canada-approved radios that are compliant with Canadian regulations can be used legally in Canada.'
'US GMRS radios, especially those with external antennas or repeaters, are not legal to use in Canada because they don't meet Canadian certification requirements. While it's unlikely you'll face legal trouble for simply bringing a mobile unit, it is illegal to operate a US-made mobile or repeater GMRS radio in Canada, and you could have the equipment confiscated. Canada only allows licence-exempt devices that meet their specific technical standards and have an Industry Canada (IC) certification number.'

I also did an internet search but I guess I should have dug deeper. I wonder whether the page I visited had been written by AI? :( Next time I'll have to be more diligent.
