Bronco won’t turn off

Hi folks, 2022 Bronco Badlands Sasquatch, high lux, 4300 miles. Two weeks ago Bronco was dead, not even a click, jumped it to get it started and drove it on highway for over an hour and took it in to O’Reillys for a battery/charge check. Everything was fine, cleared a couple of codes they said were triggered by low voltage. I assumed maybe ignition was left on. When I got home and turned it off, it continued to run for over a minute, I hit ignition button several times to no avail. It eventually died. I restarted it and let it idle for a while and when I turned it off, it idled for 30 seconds this time, and check engine light came on. I asked dealer to help me out as we were leaving for a trip in four days, and they got it in and cleared the code and said everything was fine., and they could not get the engine to run past turning ignition off. We got up to leave the following morning and check engine light came. We dropped it off and went on our trip without the Bronco, a big disappointment for us. They were able to duplicate the engine not turning off by taking the Bronco for a drive, but have not been able to diagnose the problem. They have been in conversation with Ford as well. They are replacing alternator as they say there‘s been a lot of problems with 2.7 and alternators, but I don’t see how this has anything to do with it not shutting off. Has anyone ever had or even heard of this problem with the new Broncos? Thanks in advance, flagman

Well that's a new one for me and it sucks. No real suggestion to remedy but considering you are under warranty Oreillys is probably the last place I would bring the truck for diagnosis...bring it to the dealer.

It could be alternator related. While not same situation. I have a boat I bought off some idiot that replaced the alternator with the wrong style. This caused the engine to run on randomly like this and to get the boat to die I would have to choke it out. Obviosuly not an option on a fuel injected engine but If something is wrong internally in that alternator or lose ground it can cause engine run on.

The mechanic was talking to the Ford techs earlier this week and they’ll have the alternator on tomorrow, so I’ll see what happens after that, thanks for your offer

I got the the Bronco back yesterday after the dealer replaced the alternator, they did a lengthy test drive and said they’re still getting an ABS code but it runs fine. Ford will get back to them in a couple of days regarding the ABS. I drove it for 150 miles and no problems as to the engine continuing to run after shutting off. flagman

I have a 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend, similar issue happened to me this weekend. Went to start the Bronco and it was completely dead, checked the battery with a meter and had 1 volt. Put the battery on trickle charge for a day and then tried again. Bronco started up no issues no alarms or CEL, however, when I tried to shut it off, the engine just kept running. Took it for a a 25 km (15 mile) drive to cycle the drive mode and tried to shut the engine off, but again it would not shut down. After about 10 - 15 just idling, the engine finally shut off, but everything was still powered up. Started the Bronco up again, and once more it would not shut off. Eventually I just pulled the fuse box and pulled the negative cable from the battery to shut everything down. It's now at the Dealer and they have never heard or seen this before, hopefully they can figure it out.

So, here's an update, got the Bronco back from the Dealership and was told that the problem was because I had taped into fuse #3 in the passenger foot well fuse block, (which is switched power) to send a 12 volt signal to the remote on for my sub woofer install. Does this sound like a logical reason, for me it doesn't sound right. The sub woofer is hard wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse and is only powered up when it gets the 12 volt signal from the switched on power when the Bronco is started. anyone else out there have this happen when hooking up an accessory to fuse #3 ?????
