Hey I still don't and agree wuth you. I'm just giving a different perspective. I'm a consumer too and want to pay the least I can, too. Certain perfect storm things came together to create it as it is now. Things come full circle and I bet we are back closer to what used to be again someday. It is amazing that we are at this point in time when the thought of a dealer discounting a vehicle off msrp becomes an issue. It wasn't very long ago that the very thought of paying msrp was just crazy. We expected and dare I say demanded a discount off of msrp or we were taking our buisness elsewhere. I purchased a truck at the beginning of 2020 right before covid began to control our lives and paid 8000 below msrp on a very desirable 2020 2500 Duramax GMC Sierra, not a previous year model, new body style. I didn't have to ask for that, its what they offered. This new reality that world seems to have embraced with open arms it so counter intuitive to everything I have known about buying cars over the last 32 years. I guess I'm old enough to lament the good ol days. But we all need to get back to that place where we know that dealers can sell a car for less than msrp and still be good, because like they have always told me, new cars bring them in, used cars are where we make bank. Peace
However, dealer's that try to make it by being the low baller in my experience often don't make it long term. You have to sustain certain volume levels to remain profitable and if you don't you bury yourself in a big hole dug by yourself. It's never wise when you have a hot commodity to be the one giving it away when the others are taking profit while it's there to make. This doesn't just apply to automobiles.
So I was saying from a dealer's perspective, they being a profit driven business, must make $ when they can, as there are plenty of times that they aren't and are scraping by. It's the nature of retail. Better make $ on things you can, because there are plenty of times that when market conditions are different, that you can't.
Saying that.. there is a balance and extorting people just because you can is also bad practice and those dealer's too will pay one day, as people won't forget it. And when times are harder and they need customers they'll wish they hadn't been that way.
I wish everybody could be fair with everybody. I'm good with them making some $, but also want a fair deal for me. Huge admins, market adjustments, etc. aren't good for me and low ball isn't good for them. I've always tried to pay invoice or so on regular orders, retail or less on specialty vehicles, raptors, etc. orders.
I paid a little bit below msrp on my Bronco order which I felt was fair to both parties considering low inventory on a hot product. I would not have been willing to pay msrp + admin, but don't fault those who did that wanted a Bronco now.
