Hello,

This might be a little late, since I have already purchased and paid for a Bronco OB but I wanted to ask none the less.

I live in Mexico, where there is basically 2 trims and no options. (PDF datasheet)

I can basically choose the Badlands with lux, and pretty much everything, or the Outer Banks with leather seats, and a few other options.

I really prefer the OB since its more of a "city" vehicle than the BL, but I am worried that the Bronco Sport Badlands might be more off-road capable than the OB without lockers. I would love to get at least a rear locker in the OB but its not possible here. Lockers here require the BL, and I want electronic seats, and a few other creature conforts.

I currently have a Subie, very nice. I figured the Sport would be around the same capability as the Subie or better. Will a full size Bronco without lockers be at least as good as the Subie/Sport for light trails, mud, sand?

Does the Bronco use brake vectoring when in Goat modes?

Thanks for any advice you might give.

Hopefully someone who can translate Spanish can help you. For those who are fluent and are willing to help, it seems that the specs begin on page 16 of the linked PDF for the vehicles that can be ordered in Mexico.

Thanks, I think I posted too early. I know what I am getting, just not sure because it does not have lockers available. Will it be at least as capable as the Sport Badlands is really my question?

If it doesn't have the optional rear locker with associated gearing (4.27), then it will have just the open rear differential with 3.73 gears. The question you have to ask yourself is what level of off road driving you will be doing? Having open rear diff won't suddenly stop you from enjoying going off road.

I can't speak to the capability of the Sport Badlands. I believe they use clutch packs to mimic a rear locker, but I'm not certain.

Thanks. Yes they do. They use clutches to mimic a locker.

I do some trails, beaches, mud, etc... Never been stuck with a Subaru Forester using X-Mode. I just want to know an OB without lockers is more capable than that.

The BL trim here comes with manual seats, and pretty much everything I do not need. I would just like to get a rear locker if possible, but its not. The OB is already ~70K here in Mexico, and the BL seems far too off-road focused for me.

Do the Bronco Goat modes have some sort of torque vectoring like X-Mode?

Thanks again.

Answer to this is no. Bronco is a "real" 4wd vehicle. Closest thing it has to what you are talking about is the trail turn assist.

There are just too many variables to know if it will work for you.

I have an Ascent and I really like the Subie AWD system, but I would say my BD is more capable before I hit the rear locker. I would attribute most of that to the wheels. But I have only really pushed the Ascent in snow and I have only taken the Bronco on dry dirt.

Thanks for the reply. Another question, can a rear locker be added in later? As it would have been from the factory? Integrate it into goat modes, etc? Or is that not possible?

I would prefer an LSD for the off-roading level I do, but I have read and it seems as there are no recommendations as to which LSD to get

OP: go to Youtube and look up "Buckle Up Buttercup". She has an OB - and she takes it off road constantly. It does really well. Krista eventually had I think 37's put on but I've been on trails with some Broncos on 32's and they had 0 problem on the light trails for sure.

This is correct. Krista's OBX was a stripper with open rear diff and 3.73 gears. She has beaten the hell out of Buttercup (name of her Bronco for those that haven't followed her).

To the OP: Not sure what X-Mode is, but I wouldn't worry about the absence of a rear locker option from the factory. The pricing that you alluded to seems to put the Badlands out of reach for most customers in Mexico. People have been off roading on open diffs for generations. You'll survive.

Badlands is "only" around ~75K, its not much more than the OB in Mexico, but I want electric leather seats and carpet as most of my time will be as a daily driver. The BL does not have these conforts and that's why I prefer the OB.

The OB already comes with 32 inch all terrain tires.

I am thinking that I can always add an LSD in the future if I find it necessary.

I think that honestly it will be more than enough for my level of "off-roading" but I am still worried I might need an LSD at some point. I go to many places that get very wet for work (oil rigs in the middle of nowhere) and mud tends to be a problem.

I am sure you can add a rear locker aftermarket , But it will cost more then if you get it from the factory. And it will not be controlled by the goat modes you will need a switch to turn it on.

this is a passionate forum, and a lot of people love to wheel. if you want a dd, ride trails and mud, sand, and more i would do an ob.

it's tough, and expensive to add lockers later. but in your use case you're more than fine without. i can tell you any bronco will outperform any stock Subaru, even the newer wilderness.

these things are really capable, at least in my experience. you can always go up a tire size or two if you want too. if i was in your position i would absolutely go ob and take the comfort route. regardless, you'll love what you choose, at least i did.

I would if I could, but there are only 2 trims available here. It is impossible to configure them, they are as they come. I wish I could add a rear locker but unfortunately no....

Thanks very much for that. It puts me at ease somewhat. I love my Subaru, but I just love the Bronco look. I will be getting mine this weekend so we will see...
