Bronco fuel theft.

Has anyone heard of fuel being stolen from the Bronco? The fuel door doesn't lock and there is no cap. I've had no issues for 2 + years but I wonder. Does the design prevent syphering?

They probably still your wheels converter or your whole bronco before they steal your gas.

It’s not easy to push down a hose in there. You have to have the funnel that’s included in your Bronco to push gas down and same thing with pushing it out so yes the design makes it harder to siphon gas out of the Bronco but of course it’s not impossible​

Impossible, no. Easily done, no. You would need the emergency filler funnel or something about the same diameter to push the internal ears back to allow the flapper to open. From there a small diameter hose would need to be passed down to the tank assuming there isn't some secondary obstruction I'm not aware of.

Occasionally people run into an issue at fuel stations where they can't insert the filler nozzle into the inlet because the nozzle is bent from being dropped or run over. Has to be very concentric to engage both ears at the same time or no joy. The capless system has been fairly reliable compared to previous versions and rarely fail from normal use.

No need to worry about the absence of the locking fuel door. These days, thieves simply drill holes in gas tanks.

I was going to say this too. They don't have to spend time syphoning when they can use a cheap drill and drain your tank from underneath.

If you are worried about this, make sure you have the steel fuel tank skid plate.

Not necessarily worried about theft, but about people pouring crap in the gas tank through the flaps. I bought one of these locking gas cap covers just for peace of mind.

While we're on the subject, avoid this (so called) "No Spill" fuel dispenser. The spout does not reach deeply enough into the Bronco fuel aperture, resulting in lots of gas spilling out, creating a big mess. Alsok you have to depress the green button (on the right, in this image), which has a pretty powerful spring, to open the valve. Depressing that button is quite a distraction while you're trying to manipulate the can's position to get flow.
Also, the ratchet lock on the can's neck is a real pain. I snapped it off so I could unscrew the dispenser cap. Eventually, I finally got my fuel out (some in the tank, the rest on the pavement) and returned the smelly mess to Home Depot.
It seems that this dispensing system is the only one sold legally in my high-regulation state. All for "safety" and "global warming," or something. Well, regulators gotta regulate--it's what they do, right?
