Whipe I appreciate the rebuttal, the worst among those who wheel typically are the SXS crowd. Not those in this organization obviously, but there are plenty that go ripping through trails as fast as they can, tossing empties and cigarette butts as they go.

Well, when you are organized you need to. Even with sensationalist journalism.

No, you don't need to.

But if you feel the need to, allow me to clarify: never talk to reporters without running a video camera you own, and immediately posting that video for all to see--and marketing the hell out of it--before the reporter gets something into print.

You will never get it, but demanding final edit review before posting is the only way to talk to a reporter. If they will not grant that, then don’t talk.

Glad they had a well versed rebuttal. Unfortunately most WAPO readers will not see it. Not hard to be truthful and clear unless you are a journalist :)

I admit I was thinking this exact thing. I know it's a stereotype and not ~every~ SXS owner/driver is like this, but I see it so much it's hard not to paint them all with the same brush. And what @cansberry describes here is exactly what I see every time I'm up. I usually spend a few minutes picking up after them when I'm in a common area while I'm airing down. My biggest fear out on the trails I ride isn't breaking down in the middle of nowhere, or flipping... it's a SXS coming at me around a blind corner going way to fast to stop.

I have heard that Blue Ribbon Coalition is in bed with Mike Lee, the guy who authored the huge public land selloff provision in the BBB. That's why they didn't come out and aggressively oppose it. Not sure I am going to send them any more money.

Can anyone recommend some better groups to support?

Their executive director used to work for Mike Lee.

Edit: apparently he’s also Mike Lee’s nephew by marriage.

Not quite the same, but will share our recent experience when we went to the Moab Off-Roadeo. Our trail guide took us to a cave to show us petroglyphs. All around the petroglyphs, you could see evidence of people who carved their initials and "XX hearts XY" all over the cave walls.

Another wall was riddled with bullet holes where some idiot tried to write out his initials with said bullets.

It's sad to see the lack of respect out there.

I agree with you, however the smartass side of me wants to say like the cave dwellers did?

The difference is that the petroglyphs were typically religious art while the new stuff is just random vandalism. Some of today's Indians can interpret at least some of what the petroglyphs say. It's not random inscriptions.

I'm not going to spray paint or carve grafitti anywhere, but certainly not at or right next to someone else's religious site.
