Are first year models having first year issues... urban legend?

I’ve always been told by people wiser than me never to buy a car the first year it comes out. If you do expect to have it bought back numerous times for recalls, etc.

This obviously has me thinking of Re-Launch of the Bronco. Ford in my opinion has not done a great job with the process. Some being it solely their fault, and covid obviously a problem.

I am highly considering pulling my reservation and waiting to see how all this plays out. I’m not early on the list anyway, so I won’t make a difference. I just can’t see spending 50k plus on a vehicle where logic would indicate 1st year models will have 1st year problems.

That’s the risk you take or in my case don’t take when ordering.

I had a 2012 focus i bought in 2011, it was first year for the DCT transmission in the focus. Constantly in the shop that ford had to extend the transmission warranty to 100k miles. That car also had a water pump go out, and power steering failed

I think there will be a negative effect, sure. It's up to them to avoid cutting corners to speed up production, and whether or not they will do so is anyone's guess.

The Bronco will be my fourth* first-year vehicle (in a row). Never had any issues.

yeah. It’s a thought for me for sure....first year model, buying from a dealer I don’t want to deal with, from a company whose business practices leave a lot to be desired. There is a lot to give me pause, but I am not going to pull my reservation just yet. There are 20-30 factors to consider before I make it official either way. Last thing I want is to see tons of people driving these and regret it. One thing that gives me hope is that the design is very well thought out, so i am hoping they did the same on the guts.

I bought and still own 2011 Explorer and 2015 F-150 both first year vehicles.
A few issues on the Explorer, wiper switch, A/C compressor, and a fuel gauge sending unit, all later in ownership and the F-150 has been flawless.

I'm knocking on wood now......

I worry some but will still buy a first year Bronco. Guess my biggest concern would be electronic glitches and maybe the front and rear lockers and stabilizer bar disconnect. I am very Ford ignorant so maybe they have had those for years on other Ford vehicles?

Common sense says wait a year or two. I have no common sense and want a first year come-back Bronco. It's been my goal for 5 years. I'll sit in the recall line if need be.

That's why I'm leaning BD, 2.7, 10A. Reliability is already known.

My biggest concern is with the new 4A transfer case (hence the BD over BL).

Otherwise I suspect more annoying problems than serious ones. Like leaky seals. Which is mitigated by the washout interior.

I bought a 2011 Mustang with the new-at-the-time 5.0 Coyote and drove the living hell out of it and the only problem I had was a Lower Control Arm Bushing recall because they kinda creaked when going over speed bumps, slowly.

If you see 20 or so stories online now, then you have to realize that, for the Bronco at least, there are most likely 100,000+ vehicles built without major issue that you'll never hear about.

Your odds of a major problem are low, but more likely with "new tech" as @9wranglers-later pointed out in reference to the disco... which I'm also concerned about, but I need my Man-Lux.

I believe Farley has also held back some first run 2021 F150s because they weren’t perfect. With this mentality I have faith things are going to work out better than previous decades.

As a former ford buyer I can tell you that Ford is constantly putting pressure on suppliers in this regard - the trouble is that some of these boys are literally bigger than Ford and thus its a hard measure to push. See bosch
