Hey Guys,

I have a 23 BL 2D and take the mic on and off weekly during summer with Top Lift Pro. The other day when I was putting it back on I was pushing it a little to drop on pins and heard louder noise when it dropped the .5 or whatever it is. I was concerned I had broken a pin, but next time I took it off I saw no damage. Has anyone accidentally damaged any part of their mic, windows, etc. when putting it back on? Just wanting to make sure I am always careful, but not sure if there is a better method for dropping mic back on, etc.

I take mine off often. While I haven't ever broken anything, I worry about it every time. I just use ratchet straps hooked to eye bolts in my garage, so I have to work on one corner at a time and sometimes the pin isn't lined up exactly when I lower it down. That's when I have to tap tap tap it in and I worry about the pin snapping. I would love to switch to a soft top. It gets old after 3 years of having to take the hard top on and off at every slight chance of rain. Unfortunately the 2 doors are still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to soft tops.

I took the locating pins off of mine after the first time I put it back on. I have the toplift pro and I set it down too soon and missed the holes and the amount of flex I saw in the bottom rail was kind of scary so I removed them.

The whole clamshell feels fragile though so no treating it like my old TJ hard top that was build like a brick house.

Even if you ever do end up breaking on of the alignment pins, they would be easy enough to replace 🤠

"Any part of MIC broken when putting on?" I broke the corner of a front panel when I forgot to latch it, and it blew off the car at 50mph!

First thing I did was remove those location pins, they are not necessary. With pins removed, you don't have to worry about setting the top down perfectly, instead you can set it down and then ease it to the correct location on the body as needed.

And you avoid snapping the pins, having them scratch the body, or having them crack the hardtop mounting flange if too much weight is put on them due to misalignment or when setting on the ground.

Yes - I agree on 2D soft top. 4d soft top is great, but not a fan of 2D and I am not buying it.

Just noticed that today when I was putting it back on. For some reason I thought they were attached and molded in. I use top lift pro and typically put the forward extension lifters up 2 notches to try and keep it level, but just not dropping as clean. Think I will try 1 notch extension. Just started this thread to make sure I always review and know about any issues that others have been running into over time, so u can try to adjust any processes to keep from breaking pins, cracking windows in MIC, etc.

What did you use to remove them?

There was a post early on with a guy that had a huge crack in the bottom piece from setting it down on one of the pins. I switched to a Trektop and have no regrets.

That's why I went with the Roll-n-Jack. It's slower, but more controlled & it breaks down for storage🤠

Each pin is held on with a screw. To remove you need to hold the plastic pin segment with a pliers, to stop it from spinning as you unscrew.

And yes, I cracked my rear top due to a location pin putting too much pressure on the area (but I suspect that it was already defective there). After that, I removed all the location pins.
