The feds raising the interest rates will only affect those consumers that are only putting minimum $ down and financing for 84mos. Most are payment buyers, along as the monthly payment fits into their budget, they could care less about a 1/4 point rate increase. If the payment is too high at 60 months they go to 72, or 84. The dealer can use that to the their advantage to negate the ADM on the monthly payment.

I paid ADM and would again. Got to look at the window sticker but I paid ADM + original MSRP. I negotiate an OTD price that was acceptable to me as I am no longer hopeful I will get my order for another 2 years.

Also financed the crap out of it, because I rather be upsidedown with gap insurance. Some people say I'm throwing away money, but I rather have my nest egg growing and not in my driveway.

It's no big secret that the only way to stop dealer ADM is for everyone to stop paying it. But as long as their are people with plenty of disposable income, more money than sense or the dire need to have it right now at any cost that won't happen.

Nobody likes ADM but the dealers. Look how many threads here are talking about it. The reality is that ADM will continue until people quit paying it. It really is that simple, but oh so difficult to make happen.

We've all seen stories of people walking away from previously agreed on deals because of ADM, and we should absolutely applaud them. They should get special status here among fellow enthusiasts. But for every person who walks away, there are many more who are willing to pay ADM. That's why it won't go away.

This isn't true at all. Look at private seller's Broncos. They are buying from good dealers who aren't shellacking clients with ADM's and passing it on to the open market. Fact of life here dude, people vote with their dollars, and the market supports the overage. Now, if you ORDER your own Bronco and they spring a markup on you, I'll happily get in line with my torches and pitchforked brethrens. Until people can walk into a Ford store and pick from a line up of Broncos, demand will stay high and so will the price. So for every time we beat down a dealership for doing this, let's also condemn the practice of driving your Bronco 500 miles and selling it for $80,000 on autotrader...

This is the same thing as a dealer doing it, just at a different place in the market. It stops the same way with private owners as at the dealer too - quit paying it. We are saying the same thing. People vote with their dollars, and it won't go away until the vote is not to pay markups.

Supply issues have a big impact. Previous 'hot launches' (pick any one) were met with ADMs on the early production units, but historically supply quickly caught up with demand and only a small number of people paid extra.

As much as I hate ADMs, it is a market force that is present in low supply/high demand situations. There is, however, absolutely no excuse for telling a customer one price then adding ADM when it comes time to write the check.

It's very simple supply and demand.

As long as the demand remains higher than the supply, and there is a demand to purchase above MSRP in the absence of supply, the price will remain high.

It is what it is. I would rather this continue and result in either reputable dealers being rewarded with more business (and greedy ones going out of business) or the dealer model being abolished completely than a trend towards invasive price fixing on the free market.

We picked our, 2D Badlands up yesterday. We arrived about 4pm at the dealer and left there about 545. There was not another customer there the entire time. Saturday afternoon, pretty nice weather, what I would consider fairly good amount of inventory in comparison to other dealers around, and it was absolutely dead there. Outskirts of OKC, right on the interstate as well. I should have looked at some other vehicles to see if they had ADM on any of them. Tough times in the car industry.

well,I guess I am one of those with lots of disposable income, though I just raped on my taxes so I don’t necessarily see the disposable income. my justification is as follows:

I use my truck for work. It was a 2018 Sequoia. While working 400 miles or so from home, I went to start the truck and someone stole the catalytic converters. In stealing the cats they hit the transmission cooler as well and it was leaking fluid. After a rather large bill to tow it home through a snow storm as it was the first week in February, I find out I am #927 on a waiting list to get the cats replaced and they should be in around July. Total repair cost is $9400. Sure insurance covers it but only a rental for 30 days as it is vandalism not collision. All the Toyota dealerships in the area are losing catalytic converts off their brand new cars with some thieves getting caught but not locked up because, well why enforce laws…let’s make political statements instead.

I go with aftermarket replacements but again, thieves have stolen those as well though they don’t use precious metals o reduce emissions, they use ceramic. I take the 2018 Sequoia with 48500 miles to the dealership and they offer me about 4K less then I paid new. I then told the dealership if they can get me a rate of 1.99 or 1.79 maybe, I forgot exactly, I would finance thought them. So I paid a adm or $8k above sticker, but I figure my truck was worth about $35-38k in normal times and in they gave me $48k so I figure, why not. So I used my Sequoia for 4 year, 48500 miles and i lost about $4k off what I paid.

yeah, I guess I did feel it was disposable. I felt like I was playing with house money through I did not get exactly what I wanted In a Bronco.

ADM is for suckers...all these fools paying it will be hosed at trade in time when the new shiny hits the lot. People are idiots when it comes to money.

The ADM is actually much worse with sports cars such as Porsches and Corvettes.. Boats are ridiculous right now. My 2018 boat is worth $15k more than I paid for it and it has a lot of hours on it.
Corvettes are fucking insane right now. People trying to sell base C7 Stingrays for $75k and Z06s for 90. I should've bought a C7 Z06 when they were $65k all day less than two years ago.

So you are saying that a person should not make a private sale for the maximum amount of dollars they can get for their property? Good God; this country is doomed.
Yep, just take every dollar you can get, screw treating people right, caring, or anything... Just take what you can get 'cause you can...

That's the real attitude that dooms this country. Nothing wrong with a fair price, but thinking you always need to take every penny, and get the maximum is the issue on the lot or from a private sale.

Help out your buddy who has been waiting on dirt mountain... Pass it along, a square deal where everyone comes out ahead. That's how you get through life.
