I’m looking for any mods or products that can potentially boost the longevity/reliability of the 2.3. Anyone have suggestions?

I’m told… Premium Gas, I’m thinking about trying it.

“They” say an air/oil separator is better than a catch can. You can research both and decide for yourself if you want to install one.

It does seem to be more beneficial on port injected engines than direct injected.

Honestly not sure if one is better than the other.

But I will say Ford has an air/oil separator installed on the 2.3L from the factory.

I did install a catch can on my 2.3l and so far about 3k miles and it's pretty clean

How about "Top Tier" gas? Sold by Shell, Chevron, ARCO, Exxon-Mobil, Costco, others. Usually a bit more expensive, it's supposed to have cleaners and other additives that are beneficial. Thoughts on the matter?

In my area, there's a Costco with TopTier gas, but I get 15 cents discount at another warehouse club, BJs, which also has lots more gas stations in my area.

Here's one of several threads on regular vs. premium gas. I tried a few consecutive tankfuls of premium, and found no difference in mileage, scrupulously computing my data on the Fuelio app.

There is really no way to know as every engine is a bit different, and you can't do a true test other than peoples anecdotal experience

I have a 2.7, but it is the same approach. A more efficient engine is a better running engine which adds to longevity. Of course, maintenance plays a part in this.

So mods that help with efficiency of the engine is not a bad thing

Keep it clean
Change your fluids and filters when you are supposed to
Fix small things before they become big things
The harder you beat it the more TLC it will need in the downtime

Break it in gently, change the oil early and often, whenever you start the engine, make sure you let it get up to full operating temperature before you turn it off, and never run it hard when it’s not up to full operating temperature. Do those things and it will last for hundreds of thousands of free miles. I’ve driven Fords for over 2,000,000 miles and that system has worked for me. I’ve never had any type of mechanical or electrical problem with any of my vehicles.

Don’t drive with a lead foot, appropriate and timely maintenance and love it.

I’m making things up, but the 4cyl will eventually be prone to buildup on the valves intake side. I would look into some sort of product that you let get sucked into the intake that will clean it off and run it every 10k or so. I bet Seafoam has something.

I do run premium oil to enhance viscosity, I use fuel cleaners every fill up, deeper gas treatments for engine care every 4,000-5,000, change oil (and oil filter) often, change engine filter with every oil change, align the Bronco every 10,000 for suspension longevity, I carbon clean through dealership at 15,000 miles, top tier fuel…I run E0 because fuel will break down within 3 weeks and I don’t use a full tank always so protecting the filter and decreasing any water chances building up.

There maybe more to do…but the is a good starting point. And I will change all other fluids early.
