Thick clear plastic armor for the windshield. I had a 2010 Mini Cooper JCW that was my track toy. It was new technology back then. $1200 back then for the Mini. Worked great on the track and one day on the highway a stone hit perfect between the A- Pillar and the exoshield. 1 in a million I was told. Cracked. Insurance would only replace the glass and puff the $1200 was gone. Why I was hesitant. Bronco they want $600. Insurance in AZ is deductible on glass. Still thinking. Once the factory seal or cherry is broken there is no going back.
What I do not like about replacement glass; IMO, it is never as good as factory. The only time I had a windshield replaced, the installer's knife (to cut the seal) severely gouged the A-pillar on both sides. I hear this is a major complaint....damage to the vehicle during install, to include body damage. For me, if I can prevent the damage....I will do that. When my current ExoShield needs replacing, I will go with their newer version. I believe it is called ExoShield-Ultra.

Mine is done and reprogramed ready for pick up. I will check the A pillar closely.

I'm not replacing my windshield until it looks like a spiderweb.

My BRaptor was shipped from the dealer to my wrap and windshield film installer.

$800 (at the time) has saved me multiple windshield replacements. If you live in Cicada area make sure you clean it well. Cicada piss mixed with fall out makes for a nasty combo.

I planned to do Exoshield but picked up a nice chip on the way home from the dealer. I was lucky, knock on wood, that it didn't turn into a spiderweb after a road trip so I'm just calling it good for now.

So two months in for me and had my tint installer do the exoshield install when I got it. 5500 miles in two months and almost all of it highway driving. Have had an occasional rock hit from oncoming traffic and not a scratch.

Also had the dealer install the Aeroskin II deflector before I picked it up. The combination of that and exoshield does great in my opinion.

I hope the glass shop you chose is really familiar with Broncos. I’ve seen them peel the Vin numbers off and jack the A pillars up.

Picked up the rig. Factory glass and I could not even tell it was replaced the way the Bronco glass lays in there. A-Pillars are perfect and VIN. Older guy who looked to be doing glass for 50 years. had the windows cracked to vent the heat not to push the glass out. Not tint till next week. I think I am passing on the exoshield. Its only good for 3 or 4 years. I have zero deductible on glass and my glass guy is my insurance companies preferred provider. It brakes they can replace it again.

IMO, I doubt it is thinner...it is more upright which takes a direct hit from oncoming objects where like in a car or F150, the windshield is slanted and deflects a lot of an impact.
You are correct. The total thickness is mandated by our friends on the far East coast. The thickness of the actual glass did change many many years ago because those same folks demanded thicker plastic laminate but kept the total thickness requirement. Also all windshields have to meet a certain standard.

The issue is as you state, the angle is such that most rocks hit it perpendicular and can’t glance off. Also, most rocks are not as smooth as a ball bearing by nature meaning the force at the impacted zone can be in a much smaller area and therefore higher.

My family was in the glass business for over 50 years. The experience of the installer makes all the difference in the world.

I had a girl try and install glass by herself on my wifes car- mobile. She couldn't handle the glass. It was too heavy and it had to come out and got tossed. was in on an angle with big gaps.
