With the info from the thread:
2021 Bronco delivery now "targeted to begin June 2021" and possibly into 2022

Should Ford just go ahead and call the new Bronco a 2022?
It’s produced in late 20 / early 21, therefore making it a 21 model, albeit a late model / short run 21. Typically new model years are available in Aug or Sep of the prior year, i.e a typical 21 model being available for sale in the fall of 20. I suspect the 2022s will likely follow the normal timeframe for release/delivery once the factories are up and running.

As long as it arrives around May-June, I don't really care what year they call it. If it goes much past that without a delivery date in sight, I'll likely cancel and buy something else. I like the Bronco, but don't really need one.
By all means, save the inventory for real enthusiasts, please.

If I remember correctly a vehicle model year is defined by January 1 st. It must be in production before January 1 and can’t be in production for more than 1 January 1.

Ok production not going to start till June 2021 and will probably run from June 2021 - September 2021 for model year 2021 then the ones built in October 2021 will be 2022 model. Sounds like this might happen or maybe the 2021 models get built up to December 2021, either way its only going to be 6 months of production for the 2021 Bronco and no way will they be able to build all those that are reserved in 6 months.

Fun fact: The 1964.5 Mustang is a myth. They were all 1965s. Later on, people started to point out the running changes that took place and came up with that designation to separate their cars from the later cars. I guess that could happen with Bronco too. So, you could be right after all.
Going to have to disagree with you on this one. I actually owned a 64 1/2 mustang at it even showed that on the title. Wish I could have kept that car but needed a lot of work.

By the time the 65 came out, there were subtle changes.

Well...

Classic Mustang said:
Although originally the Mustang was advertised as an early 1965 model, Ford made some changes to the later 1965 models that differentiated the two, and it is known today as the 1964 1/2 Mustang (1964.5 Mustang). Thus, the term 1964 1/2 or 1964.5 was eventually coined.

The biggest tell is that the VINs all start with a 5, which signifies 1965.

So cool that you owned one. ?

The 1964.5 Mustang was distinct from the 1965. The 1964.5 used a generator, not an alternator. Also every engine except the very rare K Codes was different. In fact, 1966 Mustangs are closer to 1965 than the 1964.5s are.

Even all these years later, having a 1964.5 makes a difference in the value of the car. If we all get 2021.5 Broncos, it will make a difference to collectors in the future.

They should be able to build most in 3 months. Full speed production is said to be 1200 per day. At 20 days per month, a 3 month total would be around 72k units. Some weeks will include Saturdays, so possibly even more. There's also the possibility to reduce Ranger production in favor of more Bronco production.

There were lots of changes made over the first few months of production for sure (generator vs. alternator being a big one), but they are all 1965 cars. Follow the VIN link.

Wonder how slow it will be at the start and for how long? You know Ford doesn’t want another Explorer debacle.

Unless something bizarre happens, I'm thinking it's unlikely many (if any) deliveries will slip to 2022. Ford is probably saying this more as a CYA, and based on the number of reservations (many of which we know will be cancelled as extras).

The 1996 Wrangler and 1983 Corvette are warming up to this idea.
Those are hard to find, just like the lower radiator hose for my 67 super beetle.
