Parts get superseded all the time sometimes due to changing vendors or suppliers. Does not necessarily mean its a redesign although that could very well be the case as it changed vendors.
On a safety item, you do not want to go with cheaper options. Truth is all parts costs are rising and getting more expensive the parts cost do not care what the worth of the vehicle is.
