You still need the trailer brake controller, without that you will not have any lights. There are third party ways to go. My two cents is going OEM really is the easier way, whether or not you want to use their hitch receiver.

Switch(s), you have (2) sets of lights. White and amber. While you could put them both ono a single aux switch, I am not sure that would be the wisest choice.
