I disagree. There is a market for a simple rugged off-roader priced in the mid $20K’s equipped less than the Bronco Base was. Unfortunately I don’t know that they could get such a vehicle approved for sale in the US. I’d love something with minimal electronics and Toyota reliability.

In my mind a large family and multiple drivers mandates the manual so more people can learn to drive it. One reason why I wanted the manual was to be able to share my love of manuals with my buddy’s sons, trying to pass on my love for rowing gears to the next generation.

I think the auto vs manual fuel economy advantage is not necessarily the case on the modern 10 speeds. The window sticker numbers on the auto equipped Badlands were better than my manual back in 2021, although in real world conditions my manual exceeds the ratings.

I prefer the clutch feel with the spring. The spring is a bit lighter, so the pressure on the pedal to operate is easier to moderate. Before the new spring I felt like I was fighting the pedal to engage slower, the pedal wanted to spring off the floor.

On stock wheels they will still be fully covered by flares. Mine are +35 offset and the tread is covered but the sidewalls are outside the flares. I also went with the Toyo Open Country AT3. They are C load rated, weren’t as heavy as some other options. I’m pleased with their performance.

Innovative product, but even with a tailgate reinforcement I personally wouldn’t risk that much weight cantilevered off the tailgate.
