My previous off-road experience was in a Polaris RZR. For off road mapping, I used a Garmin with the Forest Service maps coupled with the Base Camp software to plan my routes, or archive my rides. I may end up using a similar system with my Bronco, but I wonder of anyone has had any success...
....side question, what did you use to mount the radio head between the knob area and the screen? That looks pretty good there and certainly convenient for easy removal.
.....and WHERE did you get that cool sticker??? I laughed pretty hard when I saw that. And yeah, that antenna is pretty tall. I also have the ID5100; have had it for a little over a year, paired with the Comet 2x4 mounted on the driver's side mirror with a Rugged mount and Diamond RG316 coax...
Holy DIPSHIT Batman, that is gross negligence defined. If your state has a Bureau of Automotive Repair, I would make the complaint there. You have good reason to be P'd off. Sorry that happened to you.
I tapped two holes in the metal plate and used metal cabinet L brackets from Home Depot to secure it. Put the L brackets on the radio, position it in the space to make sure you have some room, than mark and tap your holes.
The lip on the plate kinda gets in the way of putting the SD card in...
Damn!! You put a lot of thought into your work, and a lot of work into your work. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to include the detail and photos. Looks very Pro and gives me some good ideas!!
I go that from CJ Pony Parts. It was NOT easy to install, actually, and you have to tap some wholes into the console. I ended up removing the trim bolt at the front so I could get my hands under the trim to fish the bolt on. The back top bolt was completely impossible for me to put in without...
There is a hinge at the bottom of the trim, and snap in tabs around the top edges and center. Use your hands to grip the plastic on the right and left sides directly under the steering wheel where the rubber dust flap is located, and gently pull out and down. Be aware the snap tabs have small...
Consider a Comet Dual band antenna. It will run VHF and UHF. I mounted mine on the driver's side mirror using a Rugged Radio Billet NMO mount, and used the Diamond NMO with RG316 coax. Got a 1.01 on the SWR meter.
It's been 3 months since I took possession of my 2022 Wildtrak, Sasq edition and I finally got around to installing the Icom Dual Band Ham radio that I removed from my f150 when I sold it. First...thank you VERY MUCH to the folks on this forum that gave me tips, sent me pictures and gave me...
Thank you very much!! I will give that a go. It seems easier to mount with the molding removed than trying to slip the radio body up from underneath and properly secure it. Did you have to create a metal bracket or just drill into that existing metal plate? I saw a GMRS install on a separate...
I have an ICOM 5100 that I removed from my truck when I sold it. I want to install it in my 2022 Wildtrak. How did you remove the molding under the steering wheel? Does it pop off with regular trim tools? That looks like the perfect spot so I can still access the SD card easily. Any issues with...
