I tried today and my spring compressors wouldn't fit the front, either. I could have installed them when the bronco was sitting normally, like Dgorsett suggested, but the UCA droop during disasembly would totally interfere.
I still have hopes for the rear!
So, I installed my Fabtech Levelling kit and have a few shortcuts, one specific only to the Fabtech.
1) The video above is correct, you can move the entire sway-bar disconnect assembly to the rear and support it with a single bolt. I honestly don't think you need to disconnect either swabar...
So I installed my Fabtech 1.5“, and some new shoes today. May add .75" to the back for some rake. After being very vocal against MIC colored tops, I am torn about adding greyish wheels, but they are the only ones I like.
Wheels:
Fuel Vector 17“ (Anthracite color)
Offset +07mm
Weight 31Lbs...
The consensus for doing it "right" is usually to buy new springs that give the desired lift. This sacrifices little to nothing.
Right now we are stuck with spacer lifts/levels in different configurations that slightly reduce articulation.
I just installed fabtech 1.5“ level kit today, and may...
So a friendly member, @internationlriders, shared two videos that really helped me wrap my head around what's possible. It looks like dropping the LCA may actually the easiest, fastest, and safest way.
This video makes the process look simple and precise, compared to other videos showing the...
Any chance you could PM or link to the thread with the disassembly instructions, (and hopefully not get deleted when doing so 😂)?
Definitely looking at all options before I begin teardown.
In my experience, galling isn't necessarily a result of overtightening, but can happen in normal torque ranges. That bing said, your chances of galling are less since it isn't stainless against stainless.
The one thing I would worry about (and look into) is whether the tie rod is galvanized. If...
I shorter throw (from front to back) would be nice, which is what I'm assuming your kit would do. What bothers me the most, though, is the distance when moving over to 5th/6th from 3rd/4th.
That distance seems huge compared to the rest, and it throws me off everytime. Would a short throw kit...
I have the same question... I searched and searched, but he either didn't mention the name of the table in his post or it was deleted for some reason.
This is the only table I've seen/confirmed that won't interfere with my drawer system (being made as we speak) when both are open. Looks like...
Ah, I see! I was worried about finding the proper grade before the install, but I guess I don't need to rush. The fabtech kit uses a spacer that sits on top of the strut and is tightened down to it using the original (but cut down studs), then they provide bolts that are threaded down into the...
The OEM Soft only requires the remove of some plastic covers and 6 bolts to undo. But is quite heavy. It can be removed by one person, but requires some strength and balance to haul it down from standing in the cargo area. Not for everyone.
I suspect the Bestop will be physically easier to...
Wow this install thread has really turned into a debate. 😂
I'm guessing that many of the detractors haven't actually used the Bestop, and are ingoring the facts that have been stated several times:
The rear window on the Bestop can be undone and lifted up (as pictured previsoly in this thread)...
Oh wow, I hadn't seen these. That's the best looking option I've seen so far, and priced right! I'm still not happy that all of these kits leave the fogs bolted in place when removing the end caps of the Mod bumper, though. And the slight annoyance that none of them fit "in" the pocket rather...
There is a good chance we are working harder to find a shortcut, than the actual work required in dropping the LCA. PersonalIy, I'm just spoiled by my old Tacoma. With a little finesse, I could put new springs or shocks in with minimal unbolting.
This sounds hopeful. The bolt idea also sounds...
I haven't used any 87 yet, only 89. Getting 21 around town and 15 when I need to get to work faster (on the interstate). Averaging about 19.
I did put in half a tank of non-ethanol 89 fuel a few days ago, and haven't averaged below 20mpg since (for that same commute). It's really a wash, price...
Interesting. The fabtech 1.5“ kit wants me to compress the springs already, just enough (60 degrees) to align the adaptor's holes. I have a nice set of compressors and will go as far as I feel comfortable, if a little space is all I need.
I definitely agree on safety, and will make the...
