I specifically wanted to know: in DEEP SNOW, is a 3-Peak better than an M/T? I don't think that anyone's been able to confidently answer that yet ;-) , though someone with some 3-Peaks will be testing them out with the next snow storm.
Love all the other comments, though!
And yes, I'm looking...
Yup, I've also read about how siping works - snow to snow friction, which sounds plausible to me, but I've also seen how M/Ts dig through thick snow, brute-force style.
To take tire air pressure out of the equation - how does each perform at 10 psi (the limit of non-beadlocked wheels)...
Well, if you drive in deep snow at times, chains might just get you un-stuck, if you're unable to winch-out for whatever reason; $200 ain't so bad then.
What are folks' opinions on the effectiveness in DEEP SNOW between 3-peak mountain snowflake-rated A/Ts, vs. traditional Mud Terrains?
I don't know if extreme "siping" or "snow-flinging" would trump the day here, as I don't have enough experience in the snow.
I did Hungry Valley with some Rangers (in my 2019 Ranger FX4) in 2020? That might have been the inaugural run when 5G Rangers first came out - let me know when the next one happens and I'll drive down from NorCal in my Bronco. I'm also interested in the Miller Jeep run.
I ordered both the engine and tranny skids, as well as the rear diff. cover, all of which arrived today. They are heavy, but I've installed similar before. It's the rock sliders that are always a bear to install, solo.
Here's a pic of the diff. skid - it's a well-made piece, from the looks of it.
I recently created a group on Facebook, named "Central Coast Broncos", and have used it to organize events and bring together Bronco owners who are on the coast/in the heart of the Bay Area.
To cater to non-FB Bronco owners, I decided to also create a website for CCB, which will list past and...
What is the width of the cross bars (cross-section)? I have a Thule travel box that uses U-bolts to grab onto crossbars from underneath, and then extend into the box for tightening from the inside. I believe that the width of these bolts are between 3" and 4".
Also, having watched the video, I...
@Toomuchgear We'll make this a "tri-monthly" run! There are some trails that I haven't yet explored, so I'm happy to keep hitting HH till I've done them all, and then some.
@RangerDanger I did set up email notifications for Shipment and Delivery on the United Road tracker, but other than that, I can't gauge how long it'll take to get my car on a truck. I did notice that the last shipment consisted of six vehicles; there are currently four vehicles on the ground for...
