I'm not sure what the basket is. I got it a long time ago and there is not a name on it. Load for the Kuat is 250 pounds. I mainly put bulky stuff back there (tent, propane tank, grill, traction boards, folding chairs, etc). I don't think I reached 150 pounds. This waterproof bag is nice though...
This is why I went with the Barnes shock plate.

I thought that number was pretty high so I called Ford service at my local dealership. He said they don’t torque anything that high around the shocks. Definitely didn’t want to try it...
So yes I am semi retired and have to much time on my hands...
I made a video of how the GoPro works as a front camera and measured the viewing distances from a 12" obstacle.
For testing, I used this and attached to grill. Pretty good grip and suitable for most off-road stuff:

This is what I ordered today, now that I got it working. Should handle rougher stuff, just not as centered. As long...
Updated with video:
One of the things I wanted but wasn't willing to pay the premium for was the 360 camera in the high package. If it was available on the Black Diamond, it would have been a no brainer, but jumping up to the Badlands added about $5000 to my build.
I've been trying to come...
Would an S2 fit vertically next to to the OEM fog in the capable bumper? If so, any plans on creating some sort of a mount for that?

I went back and forth between the BD and Badlands. The decision was between a BD with SAS, 2.7, mid package and a Badlands with SAS, 2.7 and high package (for the 360 camera). $5000 difference. Didn't feel the camera, signature lights and the stabar disconnect was worth that bump in price. I...
Thanks. I spent a lot of time trying to find videos of that trail before we went. Not much out there. I hope it is helpful to those that are wondering about it.
When we were camping, we only saw 2 people. One was a person just checking out the road and the other was a ranger checking for dead bodies in the morning :)
When we were on Black Gap Road, we only saw 1 jeep and 3 motorcycles in 3 hours. Very remote.

I got it for $100 cheaper on Amazon on their Black Friday sale. Its really well made.
Here is the list of stuff for my tent camping set up if you're interested...
Yes the ledge was overhyped. The last part of the trail, when heading North, seemed a little harder to navigate for us novices (the part in the video when my wife asked if we were on the right trail :) )
Recently returned from a trip to Big Bend. Spent a couple nights in the lodge and 1 night camping in one of the remote sites near the Rio Grande. We also read that the Black Gap Road was a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail and from it's description, I felt that we could do it. It was our first...
Here is a follow up with my build...
I just got back from camping in Big Bend National Park and some other Texas state parks. Overall trip was a great success and gear worked like it was supposed to. Here are a few pics:
Packed for 4x4 trails and back country camping.
