  1. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

@omg_bbq I started off wheeling with a Nissan group (I had a Nissan then), and they taught me all that I know about offroading - it's a great way to get into the hobby, find some like-minded folks, and go on a few day/overnight trip to test out your skills/rig. Let me know if you want to hit a...
  2. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

@omg_bbq A friend recommended this trail to me, describing it as easy and is where he stretches his truck's "legs". The friend is less experienced than I am, and has a Toy FJ Cruiser with some TRD parts, so I thought that if he could handle it, so could I. I'm pretty conservative when it comes...
  3. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

Added a short video and another photo for a better sense of the trail.
  4. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

Great comments by @Lake Tahoe Traveler - I'll be trying those other trails next time I'm up there. As for Genoa Peak OHV Trail, find it on the AllTrails app (free version), download the trail map onto your phone, click "Navigate", and follow it (the trail is highlighted in red); you won't get...
  5. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

Genoa Peak OHV Trail, east of Lake Tahoe, NV. https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/nevada/genoa-peak-road The trail was 9.6 miles long, and we (wife, son, dog) completed it in about 2 hours, with a lunch/stretch break (photo) in the middle. It was fairly easy for the Bronco, in Mud/Ruts...

Genoa Peak OHV Trail in Lake Tahoe, NV.
  7. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

@Love Shop Auto Lo Please update on the ease of pulling/reinstalling CV - I've done it on a Nissan Frontier, but don't know if the Bronco's any harder. Will be bringing a spare or two, also tie-rod ends. What are the options out there for beefed-up tie rod ends, by the way? Factory Raptor version?
  8. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

@SS Bronco Were you running stock skid plates/sliders? I guess they're good enough for the Con - that'll save me some money not having to upgrade. I have a stock Badsquatch with no lift; hopefully I can make it through.
  9. New York License Plate Bracket (HBTFD)

    Looks nice!
  10. Updated: RAKET “Multi-Top” Roof Rack

Derick, with your system, I no longer need a hard top - you're saving me thousands of dollars right there, and it's much appreciated! My minimum requirement is simple - a set of mounts and two cross bars. Beyond that, I would source a platform/basket, large and flexible enough to accommodate...

@Rkeally I'll be near Tahoe, but in the Truckee area, exploring some trails up there on Saturday - I guess that's not where you'll be, down around SR 88? It's a ways from Truckee.

Bring a couple of spares and some tools!
  14. Ham Radio Install with DIY Mount

Thanks very much for your detailed response, Mark @LA Pick . I was using this radio in my 2019 Ranger, where I ran the power directly to the battery - I'll do that again with the Bronco since that firewall grommet is just screaming to be used. Two additional questions: Where to buy the...
  15. Updated: RAKET “Multi-Top” Roof Rack

Please ensure that the distance between the fore and aft support points can accommodate platforms such as those made by Yakima (LockNLoad, various lengths). Are the rear support points where the factory hardtop bolts down to? I believe that there are four bolts per side.

@RandallLG Sounds good; hopefully by then I'll have my winch installed.
  17. Ham Radio Install with DIY Mount

I have the same exact radio (ICOM IC-2730A), and have been planning to install it - this is very helpful. I have some questions, if you don't mind responding to: How is the control unit attached to the dash rail, how is the cable routed to the main unit, and where did you get the dash rail...
  18. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

@RandallLG It'd be great if we could get a few rigs together for the Rubicon, but maybe later in the year? I gotta accumulate more vacation days first. How many days would you think such a trip might need.. 3 days wheeling and 2 more to head out and back? How about Thanksgiving weekend? Weather...
  19. Installing tow hitch. Rear bumper torque specs?

Just installed this - it's sturdy. Removal was fairly easy, but installation took two people holding each end, while a third person lines up the holes to insert the bolts. Not bad overall, and great factory fit and look. Now on to figuring out how to connect the trailer tow harness to the tail...
  20. WheelMe

    Bay Area Broncos

Welcome! I seem to have the exact same vehicle as you do - nice color choice! I took delivery about a month ago. Where are you located in the Bay Area? I'm in Santa Cruz, not too far from Hollister Hills SVRA.
