Just reflecting the 0W30 is Ford's recommendation for cold climates. Mobil 1 has good oil and is a fine solution with regular oil change intervals. Are there better oil formulations available? Probably but keeping up with a regular change interval is equally or more important re: fuel dilution.

You most certainly can. Plenty of examples of just that on this forum.
While you are at it, consider an amplifier upgrade. mObridge is what I went with but there are also other examples that may be a bit more budget friendly.
For DYI, check out cosmoline as well. It's probably similar to the Waxoyl hard wax. Cures to a non-sticky wax. Smells like crayons for a week or two. They have black and clear. Clear has a yellowish tint. Coating holds up well to pressurized spray.

There is a cylinder head temperature sensor, service manual illustration earlier. This is not part of the CAI. I'd think the code could be related to that in some fashion since you were working around the area. Particularly if the other engine and coolant temperatures appear normal.
