How do people know their build day?
I got the 11/01 build week email and VIN on 9/16. That's the last email I've gotten from Ford.
Tracker shows "order confirmed" and has a VIN in the details under the dealer info.
No window sticker, yet.
“Invoice” can’t be what the dealer actually pays, though. Otherwise we wouldn’t see so many dealers offering pricing at $1,000 - $2,000 below invoice.
I feel like I must be getting close at Stephens, too. If I get a build email on that order before the local dealer build is delivered, I might still hold out for SAC.
I just wish I had thought of this contingency plan idea sooner.
Reserved 8/18/2021
Ordered 8/27/2021
Received VIN 9/16/2021
Build Week 11/01/2021
4 door soft top "base" Base
I also have a 7/23/2020 reservation for the exact same build at a different dealer still waiting on a VIN.
Dealership apparently matters.
There are exceptions to every rule. You and @StephensAutoCenter are exceptional. I’m sure there are others on the forum, as well. My local… not so much.
Is this confirmed as fact? I wondered how the heavier steel bumpers would alter factory rake. If Ford does use stiffer springs for factory installed upgraded bumpers, it is a real advantage in adding it to your build from the start… unless you’re also planning on a massive suspension overhaul...
Marine Vinyl and standard vinyl are really the same thing, except marine-grade vinyl has two extra features. It has additional UV protection to prevent the color from fading in sunlight. And it also has antibacterial and antifungal additives to make it mildew resistant.
Marine vinyl is great...
100% agree with your thinking. Sounds like thicker skin and rolled edges of the panels is all that’s being updated. But we’ve seen people with leaks, rattles, and gaps so big you can see daylight through them. I think those issues will remain after the retooling.
I switched from Big Bend to Base for similar reasons. If I had gotten a build earlier in the year I’d be happy with what I got, but the longer we wait the more my wheels in my mind keep turning.
