You have got a 3rd gen Bronco and this is a 6 gen forum so you might want to check out full size bronco website.
Be that as it may, the easiest swap will be to replace the same as what you have, ie. 300-6, 302-8 or 351-8
Used to do quite a bit in Moab, (bronco on side in avatar).
Start trails in 2wd, progress to 4wd, and occasionally lock the front end when needed, however you better be pointed the way you want to go or have full hydraulic steering because on slickrock the front does not want to steer.

I am partial to the electric dog polisher,,,,
“I love money. I love everything about it. I bought some pretty good stuff. Got me a $300 pair of socks. Got a fur sink. An electric dog polisher. A gasoline powered turtleneck sweater. And, of course, I bought some dumb stuff, too.”
― Steve Martin
I recently bought, (ordered), a new power wagon and told the salesman I did not want it etched. He said OK. When I got to the finance girl she glossed over the fact that she wanted $300 for the etching. I told her to delete it and she said she that it was standard and she could not do it. I...
Just a little automotive nonsense/trivia.
I am an old man but I remember when I was kid my dad who was a gear head from the 30"s told me that there was a fair amount of concern when the ford flat heads came out that they had an inherent design problem.
The concern was that due to the V design...
I currently have a power wagon partially because I occasionally need chains on all 4.
I have put chains on the the front of a Tundra IFS and not blown it up as the manufacturer suggests might happen.
Anyone have any insight on clearance for the front?
It is just a lower gear, nothing magical. On the flat or steady incline you can just steer, but if you get into uneven or irregular surfaces you still need to throttle and work it.
I grew up in the sixties when it had to be a 4 on the floor. I have had about 20 manuals and maybe 30 autos, (I even had a Fiat once that had a 4 spd manual on the column, 4 on the tree does not rhyme). Nostalgia occasionally wins and I get a manual, then reality sets in and I go back to an...
My 16 Tundra kills the gas when the brake is applied.
Combo of brake and gas is invaluable when rock crawling.
On my early bronco's it was much easier to control technical situations by easing off of the brake while giving some throttle than just using the skinny pedal.
I haven't hauled out a whole, or even quartered animal in over 20 years.
After finding the deer, (elk, antelope, etc), I skin the upper side of the animal as it lays, I then bone out just the meat putting it in bags. Roll the animal over and do the other side. It takes about a half hour more...
The whiners might be very visible on this specific website but are really a very small percentage of the Bronco's target market.....
It will do just fine
When the 5th Gen Mustangs first came out the local dealers were all about 2K over MSRP.
I had a Ford fleet account for the half dozen or so trucks I bought each year. I asked them if they could order me a new mustang on the fleet account and they said that they didn't think so. I told them to...
