I got the earliest appointment Saturday morning. Going to head to the canyon road and up the coast highway to break 'em in. I'll drop in with a trip and noise report, and a dashcam recording for fun.
I didn't find reviews to be at all helpful, some of these sites will give a tire top scores...
To wind down the thread -
I'm going with a set of P275/70R18 SL Nitto Terra Grappler G3
No new wheels, lift, or vehicle surgery needed to fit.
Road manners and 3PMSF.
I've got the unit configured, backed up the stock tune, update and performance tune loaded... but I do not have a garage or trickle charger for a safe install on my own.
Any shop recommendations for some light work?
I came here to be all mad, but Ford shipped it out from Livonia, overnight, and now because I don't have a garage and trickle-charger I have to find someone to get this installation sorted.
Could be worse
I blew my hoard of points and ordered the 2.3L tune from Ford this Memorial Day. I'm in no rush, just curious about relative shipping times from Ford on that so I can plan ahead.
Not married to KO3. I underestimated how much logistics go into filling a wide pipeline like tire manufacturing requires for so many options 😅
I also have no timetable.
Here's what led me to ask: I was comparing 275/70/r18 KO3 and on 17" wheels I could get a C load rating, but on 18" only an E load rate. So you're right about availability being better than before, but at truck and SUV load ratings that sound like it'd be a rough ride on a little 2 door :teehee:
12K miles on the stock tires (32") and thinking of updating to slightly larger (33") and beefier, while still being road friendly.
The 18" wheel size restricts the choices dramatically 👹
If you've upgraded your OBX tires, how did you decide what to go with, and how do you like your choice?
On non-SAS outer banks, even with the 18" wheels, the stock tires look ridiculously small in the wheel well. But speaking about ridiculous, the choices for beefier tires for 18" wheels is ridiculously limited :bandit:
I checked my order now that I had a little time. The Ford discount is -$170.00 and that's exactly 20% of MSRP $850.00
So it appears that the sale is applied first, then the points are applied afterwards. Which is good.
I'm in a beach town. If every wrangler/bronco waved then it'd take three hours just to get to the store and back.
So no, no one waves here. And no one ducks, either.
Not sure what the order of percentages is, but at the shopping cart page you can apply them individually and figure out the discounted results and compare without actual purchase 😉
