There's a very light spring in there for release so it can take a little drunk swerving to get it to let go on a solid surface. I accidently engaged the locker on my F250 at a gas station and had to bark tires for 20-30 feet while sawing the wheel to get it let go. Try gently steering slightly...
FWIW, the 22 Bronco service manual says:
NOTE: Do not fully tighten the shock absorber mounting bolts. Tighten the suspension bushing fasteners with the suspension loaded or with the weight of the vehicle resting on the wheels and tires, otherwise incorrect clamp load and bushing damage may...
This is the best shot I can find showing the gap from a normal viewing height. It never bothered me and things like that usually do bother me so it must not have been terrible. Maybe I was just distracted by those sweet Crosby shackles 😁

There's also torque management in the lower gears to protect the driveline so that might be what you're feeling. The Ford tune is in my very near future because of this issue. I know @Hossamus Prime just installed the tune on his so maybe he can chime in on this.
I had the same thought and did the same thing. It made things easy and probably helped them out. It seriously could've been a 5-minute stop if I hadn't asked for pics in the cold rain at the Granger Wall 😄 $36.5k is a steal so no complaints from me!
On a related note, we had an early flight...
