Jeep has several roof rack options for soft tops. Best thing is that they generally mount to the body/bumpers and are able to handle a lot more weight than traditional roof racks. A quick Google search of jeep soft top racks will provide some results...

I believe your comment comes from a discussion on a different thread about keeping the center panel on while having the rear clam shell off. I believe it's the center panel that needs to have the back panel on to stay secure. Could be wrong though myself, wouldnt be the first or last time.

If you're just trying to save cash and that is why you're buying manual, I'd encourage you to just go 2.7. Small price to pay when buying brand spanking new. Just get what you want and be done w it. For me, 2.3 7sp cause I want a manual.
