2nd time with front doors off transmission not in park?

Ok took front doors off today. Started engine, got the door not plugged in (as usual). But when I released the brake and shifted to reverse I get transmission not in park? I know that I put it in reverse. I don’t remember this from the first time I took the doors off.
anyone else get this? Just want to know if this is normal and I missed it the first time.

I believe it does that when your seatbelt isn’t on. When you don’t have yer belt on and maybe you’re just backing out of the garage it goes into total shaming mode. Cuz I have no doors or roof and it gets cranky without the seat belt.

This is precisely why I often keep my Bronco covered up and un-driven. I don't need low-IQ people sitting in conference room tables dictating what happens when I pull off my doors, leave my seat belt unbuckled when driving from my mailbox to my house or sit at a stoplight with my engine running.

We're grownups. We know the doors are off. We know if we left the lights on. We know if the kids are buckled in to the back seats (because there are no kids!). I don't want ANY of these nannies. That's why I now drive a 1988 Wrangler with none of that. Life is complex enough.

You'd think a vehicle designed to have the doors removed, wouldn't have a panic attack with the doors removed

I found that the Bronco acts a little wonky with only half the doors removed. I tried just doing the front doors off and it really confused the computer. When I take all 4 off, I got less error messages, al though I don't recall which ones.

Thanks did not think of that. I dough I put the seat belt on to just back out.

Check it again, after I replied I went out to move mine and I purposely did not put on the seatbelt and it gave me the “not in park”. If I am moving it 10 feet I usually don’t use the seatbelt, that’s how I double checked it

I get that message when I go to move the bronco a short distance in my driveway with the door open. I’m guessing if you had the doors off it “thought” your door was open?

So, some guys in some conference room table, somewhere, a couple of years ago, did not take that scenario into account when assembling software requirements.

Try fastening the seatbelt before you get in then sit on it.
