Tired of the Sticker Blight on Trails??

Is it just me, or is anyone else starting to see stickers plastered all over signs, guard rails, fence posts, etc. as ugly blight and graffiti?

I don't want to see all this stuff people put there when I go out for some away-time from the graffiti and gang crap in the city.

I've seen everything from bullet holes in signs in Hawaii, stickers on nearly ever chair lift pole from Vermont to Montana, Joanie loves Chachie carved in to hiking trails everywhere, and people carving their names bellow petroglyphs in Utah. I'm also born and raised in NYC, so I can't possibly list everything that I've seen there. It's, unfortunately, part of human nature. Definitely not an admirable one, really not sure what to do to curb it.

People ave no respect and when can't post trash online they gotta post trash on other ppls property like dogs pissing on every tree and sign they see.

At least bullet holes have minimal visual impact untill so many the sign is just replaced.

I think it has to do with society becoming somewhat narcissistic. Once upon a time, people got stickers or something from places they have been and put them on their trucks. It was place-centric. Now people are focused on themselves rather than the place and leave their stickers and such as evidence that the place was graced with their presence.

When we did the Off-Roadeo in Moab last year, the trail guide took us to this cave to see petroglyphs.

All around those petroglyphs were the typical "X loves X' engravings on the walls.

Another wall had bullet holes all along it. She said someone tried shooting their initials into the wall.

To wit, some of the oldest cave paintings are thought to be graffiti in intent, and they've found BOZO WUZ HERE carved into various ancient pharaoh tombs from 2000 years ago.

I think that more what happens is that beloved places that were kept up decline and decay takes over, and generally people who remember when it was still maintained imagine a better time writ large instead of the ebb and flow of time being lumpy and invisible oftentimes.

fair comments, but I do think it's worse now than it was. I will say that when I was a kid, it was considered OK to dump your trash out in the woods which is even worse than stickers.
