Had a great week in North Myrtle Beach with my family. Was on the drive back stopped at a red light in Tennessee and a driver going about 30 mph, who was not paying attention, rear ended me and my wife in my Bronco. My wife suffered a very mild concussion but everyone is alright!

We got hit so hard it pushed my Bronco about 10 feet into the car in front of us and also pushed that car into the car in front of them.

The Bronco looks like it held up nice however, I think there may be some frame damage. The tailgate does not close properly, and the inside cargo area is so messed up the trim panels won’t even fit. My alignment was also off as well… Super frustrating that someone simply not paying attention can do this. I’m just glad God had his arms around us and that no one was seriously hurt!

Don't say everyone is alright. You are not alright. Your wife was injured and you may have injuries that have not showed themselves yet. This same thing happened to me. Bronco was very close to being a loss. And I went through months of PT and chiropractic treatment. The negligent driver at the scene kept telling me," you're ok, your frames not bent", as my trailer hitch receiver is pointing towards the ground!

Wow! Glad you and the family are OK, but do NOT ignore even the "mildest" concussion - Brain injury is nothing to mess with.
Time to let a good collision shop have the Bronco to check it out...likely a good bit of hidden damage - Let the insurance companies duke it out, but I got a feeling the other driver is gonna take a major soaking on this one...

BTW - Nice tire and wheel print on the hood of whatever that was that hit you...

All good advice for sure. I should’ve added that I am an athletic trainer for college athletics so I deal with concussions almost daily! The wife is doing fine now and has no more symptoms.

As far as my truck goes, it was hard to tell what all was going on underneath. I just pray that it’s not totaled and can be repaired quickly but I doubt that’s the case given the shape of the cargo area and crash bars…

My rear tow hook was facing down as well. Couldn’t tell if the hook was bent or the frame was bent unfortunately.

Damn, what a kick in the nuts. If they do total it, make sure they account for those upgraded tires. Glad y’all are ok.

Glad no one was seriously injured, and glad you are keeping on top of your wife's concussion.

As to the Bronco, unfortunately it's very difficult to look at just the visible parts of the vehicle to tell how much damage there is. Modern vehicles are good at, for lack of a better word, hiding damage.

My Mustang was rear ended last year (by a flat bed tow truck carrying a Super Duty, yikes!). Luckily only very low speed, as the driver was, I'm guessing, on his phone and wasn't paying attention to the little Mustang in front of him as we all started getting going after a red. Anyway, initially the damage looked limited to a bit of paint needed and maybe a new bumper cover. But I wasn't fooled even though the boss of the guy that hit me was really, really trying to get me to just accept a couple grand in cash.

Took it to 3 shops, they all said "we can only estimate what we can see, for legal/contract reasons, but most likely there is much more damage than just the cover and paint needed". And, unsurprisingly, once the selected shop got the go ahead to start pulling it apart of course there was much more damage that was impossible to see/confirm without taking it apart. A $2,000 initial estimate went up to $8,000 -- luckily handled by insurance of course.

Long story short: you won't know the actual deal until they actually start the repair, so keep that in mind.

Yep. Either way, I just want the process to speed up! Thank you for your kind words.

I'd put money down that your frame is bent, absolutely go through insurance. Did you get a police report? those help in a major way with insurance and getting what you need done faster.

As for concussions, they can still linger with no symptoms. More serious concussions can show little signs early on, even disappear completely only to return in a massive way. I got a concussion playing football in high school only I had no idea. I was walking down the hall then I woke up in the nurses office, I passed out mid step and fell on the person in front of me.
