Same applies to the 'Adventure Bike' genre in the motorcycle world.

ADV riders show up in groups at wineries and breweries around here all the time. The bikes are fine and I get it. It’s the head-to-toe ADV gear they seem to wear on every ride that makes me want to clown on them a bit.

I laugh at the bikes, not the gear.

That I take very seriously. Have you ever looked around at other drivers, staring at their phones? Have you ever opened your door at 40 mph and looked at the asphalt rushing by like a grinding wheel?

Dress for the crash, not the ride.

No argument here, but you can wear full gear without looking like you’re planning to ride up Kilimanjaro every day.

My Klim kevlar-lined jeans with D30 armor just look like regular jeans, for example.

I live in Illinois, theres not many unpaid options. I would love to offroad more, but farmers get angry.. something something... "Muh Corn". Just saying some have options some don't. Would love to find a mud trail or anything that doesn't involve crops. or a "Community Hiking Trail"

When I bought it, I intended it would never leave pavement. It's found it's way to some forest service roads though, and will find it's way back once the transfer case recall is cleared. Some folks here will say that's not real off roading and I respect their opinion. Fortunately, I don't really care much whether I get street cred from anyone. Princess will continue to like her pavement most of the time.

I wouldn't mind learning to do some more advanced stuff, but I'm not trying to break it.

One of the things that entertains and frustrates me is how a lot of forum members seem to not appreciate how different the demographic is here, on this forum, versus the average mainstream Bronco owner. (So folks here are always, amusingly, asking for Ford to do things that most mainstream buyers would *never* want, that are strictly enthusiast options — but in their defense, it’s amazing that Ford actually made a Bronco with a snorkel and still makes a 2DR. We’re lucky.) People who take their Jeep or Bronco off-road are actually a very small percentage of buyers, perhaps as low as 10% (according to Google searched stats). I’m wondering how that compares to the population here. Vote!

Some of this depends on where you live. I've almost always had a 4wd or awd vehicle because of snow. When it comes, when I lived in PA or the Adirondacks, i could get myself out of trouble, through a blizzard, or a family member to work in any condition. Is that "wheeling?" No, but you need a 4wd vehicle, and I using a 4wd vehicle, to live.

When I've lived near the beach, a good 4wd vehicle is a recreational choice. Many families on Cape Cod where I lived my first 30 years had one. Get stuck in deep sand on the foreshore on an incoming tide, and you learn alot, quick. In my 70's, I bought the bronco because it's smaller that my f150, and to drive on the beach. This bronco, a non-Sasquatch OBX with 33's and a rear locker, is more capable than any 4wd vehicle I have ever owned, including 2 scouts, 2 big Broncos an excursion and an F150. I don't think everyone realizes how capable these are. Also as a kid, many people could not afford a capable 4wd, but used work vehicles on the beach. Ours was a 2wd VW panel truck. We let out the air, the kids got out and pushed until momentum was gained, and we jumped back on the moving truck.

The Capability of today's vehicles is amazing.

I just got the Bronco about a week ago, so haven't taken it wheeling yet. Though I definitely plan to. Need to get some rails at minimum.

I have had 3 Jeeps, the one below is my 06 trail rig.

I originally wanted to buy a Jeep and my wife was strongly opposed to the idea of 'yet another Jeep'. She suggested the Bronco. At first I wasn't sold on the idea. The first thing that got my interest was the 2.7. I used to have a 2018 F150 with the 2.7, so figured that would be a great engine for a smaller vehicle. Also wanted something that handles better on the street.

Got an OBX with SAS for the nice interior and stock on 35". So liked the idea of not having to put a bunch of money into tires and such.

I paid less for my Badlands than the MSRP for a Polaris Pro-R. The Badlands happens to be a a competent daily driver that I also take into the rocks.

I'm mindful when I take it into the rocks that if I break it, I'll have to drive something else to work Monday...

But saying folks should buy a Polaris to beat up instead of their vehicle specifically designed for off-roading is no more or less valid than using their Bronco while having a backup daily driver (Or being prepared to ride the bus!).

Lots of ways to skin this cat, everyone has to look at their individual situation and decide what works best for them.
