For Bronco owners who, like myself, live in an apartment/condo, the process of removing and, more specifically, storing the roof presents special challenges. Aside from not having the luxury of a garage (and hence some extra storage space), my strata (or HOA for American readers) is particularly fussy about what one can "store" in one's underground parking spot. And that, presumably, would include a roof hoist with a Bronco clamshell on it.
Even if the strata looked the other way, I can't do the traditional leave-the-roof-on-the-hoist-and-drive-the-front-end-of-the-Bronco-under-it because:
So again, the only issue was how would the strata council (and perhaps other residents) react to such a fixture in the parkade. For context, people here have been ratted out in the past because they left their personal grocery cart/wagons in their spot. Ah, the joys of condo living! So, it is with a bit of hesitation that I set about constructing the box but, as per the subject line of this posting, I persisted and actually did the final assembly late at night when no one was around to question it.

Included are a few pics from the planning stage to implementation. (Note: For the time being I have a 2x4 tying the front bottom corners of the box together but I will remove it at some point to allow the '66 to be driven in further as planned) So far (knock on wood, lol), there have been no complaints about a big wooden box appearing in the parkade - and I'm enjoying full top off, open air motoring which is one of the principal reasons I purchased the Bronco.
Sidenote: A shout out to @EZ4X4 for designing such a great roof hoist - and for making it foldable. That feature has allowed me to store it in my laundry/utility room instead of the parkade where its presence would most certainly raise the ire of other residents.

- There is not enough overhead clearance for that in my spot.
- Due to space limitations, I have to back into my spot - and there is another spot/vehicle behind me so, backed in, I would have to move the roof & hoist out of the way every time I wanted to drive my Bronco.
- The parking spots are only so long and one is supposed to keep the end of their vehicle within the length determined by the white painted lines that define each spot. That would be difficult to do with the hoist and the Bronco in the same spot when the hood can't go under the roof.
- And finally, I don't entirely trust the driving skills of some of the residents here. (Anybody who has spent any time in Victoria, BC will know what I'm talking about.) Several of the vehicles in my residence have big scrapes down their fenders because their drivers have failed to park without hitting the cement pillars that border some of the spots and hold up the parkade. Worse, some drivers have even taken down the light posts that line the perimeter of our outside courtyard because apparently these poles must have jumped out in front of them when they were driving off! At any rate, I digress. Suffice to say it wouldn't surprise me one iota to come down to the parkade one day and see that one of these errant drivers had hit my roof hoist and pushed/toppled it into my Bronco.
