Respectfully and critically,

My Bronco is acting like the transmission can't decide what gear it wants to stick to and is causing take off, turns and braking to be questionable.

2 weeks ago I broke my passanger side CV Axle with all 4 lockers engaged in reverse while pulling out another truck. My 22 badlands sas was towed to local Ford dealer.

I have a Ford Performance tuned, 2.3L 22' Badlands Sasquatch with 58K miles.

They replaced the front passanger CV Axle [attached picture of invoice] under warranty.Thank goodness!🙏

But, when it arrived, they wanted to fix all 6 recalls after assuring me that the Ford Performance tune would not be effected. [Picture attached]

The tech started certain computer updates but I think messed up.

I negotiated to let me drive it. I needed it, not knowing they changed things half way or messed up.

Im not sure if they knew what they were doing.

I have a forscan license and have made some updates:
- day time lights orange
- disabled double honk
- enabled sport mode (only used twice)

Hardware I have added (engine wise):
- turbo blow off valve
- K&N air filter

I bought the Bronco used with 17K, 1 year old. When I got it, It came with what looks like Bilstein 5160s (No labels), which was weird. They are silver with the groves for coil seat adjustment which is strange. Im going to research the springs info when I get a min.

They say they are ordering a new PC or something to be replaced because of the recall. They also do not know what to do to fix the other recalls. The invoice shows the confusion I was told about.

Also, is it possible to have the same mileage you had going in as you did leaving with having the front CV axle changed?

My Bronco was perfect now acts spastic, slamming shifts and wrong torque.

Please give any advice you can muster!

Thanks!

tl;dr, they tried to update and it failed and they dont know why. Am curious how they think they're going to perform the recalls for the rear camera and the fuel pump when those haven't even been made available yet

This post is kind of all over the place.

Nothing they did listed on the repair order would’ve affected your FP tune or the transmission.

If you’re having a transmission concern, bring it back and have them look into it 🤷‍♂️
Doesn’t seem like that’s what it was originally brought in for.

They probably just didn’t update the repair order with the correct mileage out, not uncommon, it happens sometimes.

Just a dealer thing. Sometimes all listed recalls in Oasis get put on the repair order whether they’re repairable or not. Some service writers aren’t smart enough to do their job correctly.

Agreed! I am ADHD and this is my first post. Im not sure how people structure such complicated situations in writing. I don't do social media. Im a great story teller lol. I appreciate your reply though.

Is it possible the transmission is damaged along with CV axle without their knowledge since it seems they did not drive it?

Thanks again!

It’s certainly possible, but it’s also very possible they did drive it and simply didn’t update the correct mileage out.

Either way, I would just bring it back in and explain the transmission issues you’re having.

The software update issue they had was for the APIM, something completely unrelated to powertrain. So that didn’t cause it.

After, to answer your question. I didn't drive it before they started on the recalls after fixing the CV Axle.

New info:

They did drive it for 30 miles I found out.

I am now wondering if it may be the front diff that is causing what I am feeling.

There is more front end vibration, more engine noise, less turbo. It feels like its taking more time to shift. It wants to lag and shift harder.

Thanks

As the old saying goes, "If everyone did their job perfectly, half of us would be out of work"

Did you drive it to the dealer, or was it on a wrecker?

Since you broke a CV axle, in my mind (and this is because of how I was raised, working on vehicles), that should IMMEDIATELY make everything attached to it suspect. But that's how I operate - I broke something, could something else have broken too?

So that means I'd have been checking both the front diff and the wheel hub bearing. wheel hub bearing is easy enough to inspect when you've got the shaft out, look for visible damage and check for play.

Differential is a bit harder to inspect, but you can somewhat inspect for damage through the hole the CV goes into, reach in and see if anything moves around that shouldn't, check a little of the oil and look for metal shavings. Personally I'd just drain the oil and inspect through the drain hole, if you've got a bore scope even better (most techs do). If everything looks good, refill and go! If there's anything in the bottom of the diff, or there's excessive metal flakes in the diff oil...no bueno, time to dig deeper.

Because I can absolutely see how a damaged diff would be dragging, making the transmission hesitate to shift up, and tend to shift down more often. It could also cause issues with takeoffs, because it takes more power (torque) to get the vehicle to move now.

It sounds to me like the dealer took you at your word that it was JUST the CV shaft that was broken, though their 30 mile test drive SHOULD have told them that something else was wrong.

AMEN! I agree 100%.

I must be in Savannah GA for the next 4 days. I had to rent a truck so I don't go over mileage warranty😅. Even though issues are current and happening before the 60K mark. They said, "It has to be under 60K pulling into the shop." So Im dropping off Monday at 8:30am. They're going to need for the whole week. 🤦‍♂️ Bless their hearts. They're doing their best.

I wouldnt knock the dealer just yet. seems they're certainly working with you. and they replaced an axle shaft under warranty that YOU dorked up pulling a truck. That's mighty kind of them.

REgardless, service at Huntersville ford is excellent. If you DO run into dealer service issues that is.

Good stuff!! You sound like my buddy!🤣
Ive been know...to proper &*$^ something up!
Its in my DNA. Thanks for the replies and advise. I actually used to supply Huntersville with all their maintenance supplies : Bolts, hoses, fittings, abrasives, hoses, clips, airline couplers, you name it. They are good people.
Still work for the same company but Im a Developmental manager and hydraulics and pneumatics specialist now for them.

The parts manager from 10yrs ago was a great guy.

Small world. Thanks
