Perhaps my view is warped by driving a Mustang with a Barton short throw in it for almost 15 years, but there's nothing short about this shifter. It's short compared to the 4 speed in the 72 Wagoneer I had in high school, but that's a pretty short bar. This shift feels long to me, probably about the same as the stocker in my Mustang did.To me, the OEM shifter has a pretty short throw compared to some other vehicles I have driven. It drives like a somewhat large, tall, sports car. Except on corners, where it feels weird. I think it might be the sidewall threads on the Goodyear Goodyear Territory RTs.
But it will feel even better with an AL lock out. LolI too replaced my OEM knob with an aftermarket Twisted Shifter round one. It's great. I don't have an issue shifting,

It sure feels short to me after driving pickup truck manuals most of my adult life. I miss that familiar feel!Perhaps my view is warped by driving a Mustang with a Barton short throw in it for almost 15 years, but there's nothing short about this shifter. It’s short compared to a full-size old-school truck but compared to our 2018 Mustang GT and our 1983 Ford Ranger with a Mustang GT engine and T5 installed in it, it’s got a longer throw. But ours is nice and smooth regardless. To me, the OEM shifter has a pretty short throw compared to some other vehicles I have driven. It drives like a somewhat large, tall, sports car. A T5 shifter inserts into the transmission… Other styles (cables / rods) will never be as short or fast. It’s short compared to a full-size old-school truck but compared to our 2018 Mustang GT and our 1983 Ford Ranger with a Mustang GT engine and T5 installed in it, it’s got a longer throw. Is there some advantage to shifting faster in a Bronco? Are people racing these things??Why on earth would you ever NOT want a shorter throw?
When you change gears, you're often doing it because you want torque, and you want it ASAP. Racing need not apply, the shifter is there for torque management. Is there some advantage to shifting faster in a Bronco? Are people racing these things??![]()
I gotta say, I've never been in that situation. Sure, there are times I'd like a bit more torque, but never in a position where I didn't have time to just take it easy. Slow is fast, or whatever it is that jarheads say. When you change gears, you're often doing it because you want torque, and you want it ASAP. Still no reason why a shorter throw would ever be a bad thing.I gotta say, I've never been in that situation. Sure, there are times I'd like a bit more torque, but never in a position where I didn't have time to just take it easy. Slow is fast, or whatever it is that jarheads say.
Maybe if you are mud or sand running and need to keep momentum and wheel speed up, maybe.
... a 2.3l has a wide Torque Band... 2200-3600 RPM... four cylinder motors like need higher RPM's ...When you change gears, you're often doing it because you want torque, and you want it ASAP. Racing need not apply, the shifter is there for torque management.
Yeah, I had an '89 Chevy stepside with a 5 speed and the shifter was about two feet tall, lol. Of course, there was no center floor console, and the transmission hump was a bit lower. It sure feels short to me after driving pickup truck manuals most of my adult life. I miss that familiar feel!
lol... given the torque profile on an FI engine, and an off-road focused vehicle, you're really reaching there...no pun intended...When you change gears, you're often doing it because you want torque, and you want it ASAP. Racing need not apply, the shifter is there for torque management.
