I use one quart of each the top six oils recommended in the most current threads about oil. As for filters, I buy one of each of the top 6, put them in a bag and blindfolded, I grab one.

Seriously, I am a second generation Ford owner. Been changing oil in cars for, damn, over 50 years. Been using Valvoline for all these years.
i do suggest 5w-30, at 5,000, or 6,000 mile intervals, or no more than 6 months.

Do a little research, pick a brand you are comfortable with.

And feel blessed that all you have to do to open the oil container is to unscrew the cap, and not have to jam a pour spout into the metal top of a cardboard can.

I use Mobil 1 or Castrol. Mostly because they are good. O’Reilly is nearby. Always a rebate which makes the price great for the next oil change. I use Wix filters from Rock auto

I'd add that if you wheel your Bronco a lot, especially in dusty conditions, you need to use a short OCI even if you put in the very, very best performing oil (whatever that is). Large amounts of dust is gunna clog your filters (air/oil) and there's only so much the oil can do to protect from what doesn't get filtered. After a week long Moab trip (tons of dust), I just change my oil for peace of mind. Of course, I do it myself for $30 in materials and an hour of my time, so it's an easy call.

Honestly, the best policy with any vehicle is to not try to skimp on oil changes. That will do far more for you than obsessing about getting the "best" oil. Stick to 5k/6mo at max with any oil that meets Ford's spec and you just aren't gunna have any oil problems.

Thanks for that flashback! I worked in my Uncle's auto repair shop on the weekends and at a Phillips 66 gas station across the street from our house in the late '70s.

I remember having to use those spouts, along with the "ding-ding" when someone pulling up to the pump. "Filler her up and check the oil".

The owner of that gas station also taught 14/15-year-old me how to count change since there was no cash register that did that for me. Also had one of those credit-card machines that used the carbon credit card receipts and had to use levers to set the sale price on the imprint.

Same, 1st job was at a local Mobil two bay gas station and automotive repair and service. In addition to what you stated, the owner also taught us youngsters to get out there and clean the pumps and islands....to this day, when I pull up a gas pump and see it dirty, I shake my head and think of my 1st boss and his frown of disapproval.

The service station I worked at didn't have lifts, but pits that you climbed down into. I also remember balancing tires on an old school bubble balancer.

I was not going to reply to this thread, but decided to give some long term life of use with synthetic oil. This is not on a turbocharged engine but one that has almost 312K miles on it. The engine is a Ford 4.0 SOHC in my 02 Ranger. I have never babied this vehicle and has been real work horse for me. It has spent a lot of time off road and towing my race car all over the country, plus being my daily driver. I have used Valvoline full synthetic oil since the first oil change when new. I also have used only Motorcraft oil filters. In addition I used a Harvard micron filter bypass system.

Many people frown at this but I used an extended oil change interval of 20K miles. This was determined by oil analysis. I still changed the Motorcraft oil filter every 5K miles.

I still take that Ranger off-road and it performs like it did when new. Oil consumption is about the same as it was when new. I add a quart about every 3.5K to 5K miles. It uses the lower mileage if most of the driving is around town.

The only work done to the engine was a cam timing chain system rebuild at 250K. It was done as a maintenance item not a failure. It was the weak point of that engine.

We had lifts, but also the bubble balancer....along with a Coats 20/20 tire changer.....first time I used it, I bent the crap out of the rim.....

At the very least, use Ford's Full Synthetic Oil (5W-30) w/their Oil Filter.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is said to be a very good oil together using a Wix Synthetic Oil Filter.

Myself I use Amsoil Full Synthetic Oil (5W-30) w/a Wix Synthetic Oil Filter.

The biggest issue w/these engines are w/the turbo's, which not only run very hot, but spin at several thousands of RPMs.
When ever you are running at high engine speeds w/these engines, or any other turbocharged engine, such as on the highways, and then coming to a sudden stop, before shutting the engine off, let it idle a few moments to allow the the turbo to spin down as well as to allow cooler oil to get up into the turbo bearings. This is why using a good 100% Synthetic Oil is especially important, the Turbo Bearings.
