This is something I've been wanting to do since I got my bronco over 3 years ago.

The shovel is a long handle spade, the right kind for digging a cat hole if you know what I mean!

Out of the way and out of sight unless you kneel down a little to look up, and silent no rattle.

Where do you guys keep your shovel?

What makes this location work is the shape of the spade shovel, it's flatter than the typical earth moving shovel.

This one, with D-handle replaced with a long handle, shorted a few inches to fit, and I did round off the square corners a little.

This D handle was the shove I used since getting my bronco and I would put in the back where-ever it would fit which was always in the way, you know what that's like!

It's great shovel for everything I've needed off-road and camping, and now it has a home on the back roll cage, it's out of the way and always there.

I bring a folding military shovel that fits in my recovery bag.

How do you have that mounted?

Short answer, carriage bolt thru the blade with wing nut and quickfist clamp for the handle.

Long answer,
- 3/8" x 3" carriage bolt thru the speaker bracket
- spacer
- nut with locktite
- bike inner tube slipped around the spacer and nut.
- hole thru shovel blade
- wing nut (soon to be replaced with thread knob)

That protrudes into the cargo space - way too inefficient!

The 2door has ~21" space from tailgate to back of seat, 4door doesn't have miles more either.

I found that many tailgate tables are unnecessarily thick and use up too much space. After trying 3 different ones I ended up making my own, thin tailgate table.

I can see where space may be a concern in the two-door but since the four door has 50% more space it's never been an issue for me losing that 3 1/2". I've never had an issue of getting everything I needed to in the back. It will even fit a 30 gallon short water heater still in the box. Ask me how I know.

I use a Lasher shovel from South Africa (https://lasher.co.za/shovel-square-mouth-steel-shaft-mc2-fg00350/ ). I have seen them sold in this country but couldn't find a current link. It's got a steel shaft, virtually unbreakable one piece. It fits nicely under the rear seat although it is hard to photograph, But handle in first. I have an axe on the other side, as shown, both are zip tied in place.
