Hi everyone,
I recently removed a locally-made roof rack wind deflector that caused paint damage on my Bronco roof from rubbing and poor rubber protection. Now, there's a faded patch and slight clear coat damage, though the rack is gone, so it's purely cosmetic. I seek advice on fixing this: is paint correction enough, or is repainting necessary? Has anyone blended this damage without repainting? Would PPF after correction help hide or protect the area? I prefer to avoid a full repaint but want a long-lasting, clean fix.

@broadicustomworks is the paint guy, he might have something to say. To me it looks like you'd want to get the frame repainted if you want a permanent fix. Maybe some touch up and put a light bar up there with all the wind noise (but you won't see it)?

The clear's gone, it'll need a respray of that, and probably the underlying color as well.

I had the same problem with my wind deflector on my RCI rack. The rubber weather stripping was gathering dust like mad and just grinding it into the paint. Solved it with this:

Just some plain matte black 3m 2080. puts a good layer between things and is durable as all hell

@HotdogThud is right.
That's worn down through the clear and base.
Options are a repaint of the center section or some wrap like he showed.
Luckily it is a small and very easily repaired section with good places to break the paint lines at.
You're looking at probably an hour and a half of work and minimal base and clear.
I'd estimate somewhere around the $250-300 mark to repair.

Thanks, I appreciate your input.
Since the damage is localized, I’ll most likely go with a small respray for that section rather than doing the whole roof.
After that, I’m planning to add PPF to prevent this from happening again

That makes sense, especially with the clear coat being gone.
I think I’ll go with a localized respray, then protect the area with PPF afterward to avoid the same issue in the future.

Really appreciate the detailed input.

Since it’s a small and repairable section, I’ll go with a proper respray for that area only.
After that, I’m planning to install something like XPEL Ultimate Plus Black for added protection and a cleaner look.

Seems like the best long-term solution.
