I'd like to replace my OEM plastic bumpers on my OBX with some steel bumpers. Trying to find the best "bang for the buck" can be mind-boggling. I've been sifting through the millions of threads to figure out the best overall option - not to costly, not to heavy, easily modifiable, great looking (I know, a lot to ask for).

I see some affordable options such as Sunpie on here...where would bumper gurus on here suggest I start?

There used to be the Chinese knock off Mod Steel bumpers, but my usual source is out of stock and dunno if/when they will be coming back.

Might can still find them on eBay if you look around. Same steel molds as the factory - just different powder coat and bolts. Got mine for under $200 a couple of years ago.

Thanks - I've been reading exhaustively about the bajillion options - just trying to narrow down my search. Ideally I'd like to stick with USA made bumpers - I don't want to pay a fortune. I was intrigued by Sunpie bumpers but I'm pretty sure they're made in China.

Be sure to take into account for sensors in OEM plastic bumper. Make sure whatever you decide on has places for sensors if you have them.

Ford Bronco Replacing plastic OEM bumpers on my OBX with steel ones IMG_0098

I was kind of in your same boat. Unfortunately not too many options for affordable US Made that I found. Ended up going with 4 WPs off eBay. Think it cost me right at $550 (not including lights). Was pleased with service. Install was kind of a pain, but feel it goes well with the mod bumper. Just sharing for pics.

I was pretty surprised with the welds and finish. Also like how it’s two piece. Recovery points mount directly to frame, bumper mounts to recovery points and frame. Haven’t done enough research with other brands to know if that is common, but figure welded recovery points on a bumper could be a weak link, especially if chinesium?

I love my DV8 bumpers and rock sliders. It has a raised LIcense plate holder, back up sensors and rear light cutouts. And a few hundred less than the ADD bumper I put on my wife’s 4dr

Steve,

What did you end up doing? I just stumbled across their website Sunpie it seems like a heck of a deal and zero shipping US. I'm in the same boat you were a year ago. new OBX with the plastic bumper. Seems like a steal even if it only bought me a 2-3 years.

I decided to stay with the "rust proof" OEM bumper for now. 😂

I looked at the Sunpie Bumpers but I think they're made in China. I'm guessing I would lose parking sensors, and have to recalibrate for adaptive cruise, etc. If I do anything, it will be to get the Ford steel bumper kit, now that it's out. I'm in no hurry though.
