I wonder if a fob can be "bad" and not go into sleep mode? I've had the Bronco 7 months... I used one key fob while the other sat behind it on the same hook for 6 months. I just tried to use it yesterday for the first time and it was dead, had to change the battery.

This is likely not much help to you Ron because you may not carry a purse like I do :) but I discovered that my RFID purse was blocking the signal between my keys and my Bronco so I could not open the door or start the vehicle with the keys inside the pocket on in my purse with the RFID technology. Remove the keys from said pocket and presto, we are a go.

So hopefully that's giving me a little protection at home too.

I live in America and have more than 2 pedals, not to worried about vehicle theft.

I know my bronco key does not have a sleep mode. It’s always active and the range is minimal for key recognition to start it.
Yes, resurrecting a very old thread.

I just read about the key sleep mode feature elsewhere. Mark Rober has a great new video on the theft method that can exploit a sitting key near say your front door. It's such a cool additional security feature.

That said the above post directly contradicts the claim in the OP. I've seen multiple sources that all agree that our FOBs DO have this sleep mode. Is there a full consensus? Perhaps @Ground_zero298 you're mistaken?

Our key fobs go to sleep if they don't move for a while. There's a couple of ways you can test this. One is leave your fob inside your Bronco and let it sit for a while. You'll find keyless entry doesn't work and you'll need a physical key or a fob to unlock it.

or

If you have a garage, place your fob on a table next to your Bronco, buttons facing up. After waiting a while, push one of the buttons without moving the fob.

So no need for s faraday bag. If you want more insurance, wrap spare fobs in aluminump foil. Much cheaper than a faraday bag.
