The 2021 owner's manual says it's 400 watts when in Park, and 300 watts when driving.

OK, I found one place where it claims that it's only 150 watts. I hope that's wrong. Everywhere else I can find any reference to the receptacle, it either says nothing about how much power, or else it says 400 watts.

Yes, but the owners manual says this:

So....

I wonder if it would be feasible to obtain and install a heavier-duty inverter, to power that receptacle. That type of receptacle is supposed to be good for 15 amps, which, at 120 volts, would be {120 15 ×} 1800 watts. Really, if you're going to provide that type of receptacle that's how much power you should provide to it.

Oooh that thing.

You're limited to 400w total, which at 120v is only a mere 3.3 amps. It's going to work for small to medium sized electronics, but anything with a motor is iffy.

What are you plugging in?
It was a Milwaukee cordless tool battery charger. E=IR says it draws 330 watts. Vehicle was at idle a the time so the plug should handle 400 watts, so says the manual.

That should work. I did the same with my M12 charger just fine.

Yes, but the owners manual says this:

So....
Yup, that's exactly what I saw in the manual. I crawled in the back (which is no small feat for me :) ) and didn't see any indicator lights. My manual says that it is on underhood fuse 36, I pulled the fuse and it wasn't blown.

Thank you. Thanks to all who commented - I am going to check ALL power points for function, and am confident now that I can make a dealership warranty appointment for the bum 120VAC outlet without looking like an idiot who didn't know how to use it.

Turns out that yes, there are quite a variety of power inverters out there, meant to be used in vehicles, that are much more robust than the one built into the Bronco.

Here is just one example, out of many.

I wonder how difficult it would be to install this in a permanent manner, into a Bronco, wiring it into the Bronco's 12V electrical system. Worst case, you could always put jumper-cable clips on the input wires, and hook it to the battery when you want to use it, but it seems to me that a more permanent, elegant installation would be much preferable.

And as soon as I start talking about this, @Seanette is worrying about what issues this might create as far as the warranty on the vehicle.

BTW, you can check any and all fuses with them IN PLACE by putting a meter in the two little holes in the top of the fuses. That's what they are for. Set meter for continuity with beep. You can check them all really fast if you aren't sure what fuse may be for AC outlet.

A disappointment to me is that 400 Watts is not enough to draw what the better of my two DeWalt battery chargers claims to need, and barely enough to run the lesser one.

z2021-11-06_17.53.52.jpg

I wonder, though, if these chargers really pull as much as they claim, or whether DeWalt greatly overstated it just to allow a generous margin of safety. 6 amps at 120 volts would be 720 watts. But the output is up to 12 amps at 20 volts, which would be only 240 watts. I know that some loss is to be expected, an of course, the cooling fan needs power, but does this charger really need three times as much power in* as it puts out?

The lesser charger claims it needs 3 amps, which, at 120 volts, would be 360 watts. It outputs up to 8 amps at 20 volts, which would be 160 watts, Not as extreme as the DCB1112, but still, does it really need twice as much power in* as it puts out?

Hey, Seanette — In all your various rearrangement of stuff in the apartment, do you have any memory of seeing something that consists of a plug, and a receptacle, both bright yellow, with three separate wires,, green, white and black, connecting them? Sort of like a very short extension cord, but with three separate wires rather than one cable? I think I either need to find that, or buy the parts and make another, so that I can measure how much current these chargers really draw.

* For any who live in or near Sacramento, farther north, this becomes Howe Avenue.
I don't recall seeing that. Sure it's not in one of your toolboxes?

Did you find a solution for this? My 110v stopped powering up recently. No lights but fuse is good.

Wonder where that inverter is located..

Just adding the somewhat obvious that I missed when trying my plug for the first time.....The truck does have to be running, not just in accessory mode. It powers my 3.3 amp Craftsman air pump, which is a plus since I'm not planning on installing an onboard air system. Just have to remember to pack it when I hit the trails.

Literally having this exact same issue. I used a small air compressor this past weekend, and after I stopped, the outlet stopped working. Have been through every fuse with a fine tooth comb. Nothing seems to be burned out, and I tested all the smaller ones.
