Ford Bronco Rear recovery points B0CBCF5B-F47F-4FCA-A721-5E6C69C7B422

The base model only comes with one rear recovery hook. I’ve looked at the whole interwebs and cannot find this part number anywhere. Anyone take their rear recovery hooks off to replace them with anything else and willing to sell one?

Has anyone changed out their rear bumper and no longer have a need for the factory tow hooks?

Ford has a bit of a illustrious history with recovery loops that should have never seen the light of day, less stay in production for a decade or longer. See the ridiculous bullshit they tacked on to the Ranger in the 1990s... Having said that, I normally suggest using a receiver eyelet, but I don't like the stock Ford receiver hitch, it will potentially bend the integral cross member it's mounted to. I will either add a plate that mounts directly to the frame rail with at least 3 bolts, or a more substantial receiver hitch that mounts under the frame rails. The other option is a bumper with an integrated receiver mount.

I am so waiting for a Bumper with a hitch built in. I am not replacing my rear bumper until that one comes out...and I hate the look of the stock rear bumper.

From the towing hitch torque thread:

The good: bolted directly to the frame and possibly bumper.
The bad: kind of thin sheet metal stamped to accept a welded on loop.
Ford has produced better (cast loop with integral mounting surfaces

or the loop material is large enough the bolts pass through them, see Super Duty trucks from '99-2007?

and worse designs (mounting a loop to a small, weak cross bar inboard of the frame rail on a '94-'12 Ranger...) but I'd say unless you're below your Axles in mud that dried overnight, this will likely get you out with constant force applied along the frame line. This one seems to be a good middle ground:

My main issue is the unsymmetrical look. The OCD monster in me feels out of balance lol.
I'd be shocked if a factory replacement loop identical to the one you have would be more than $70, crawl underneath and get the part number, then go to forddiscountparts.com or Tascaparts.com and run the number in their part search.

Then just remove the one, lol. I totally understand your thoughts on the unsymetricalness!

I have a tow hitch shackle, like shown above. I think they’re handy, look good, and likely better than the “one” mounted on the back of the Bronco.

I also bought two shackles for the front modular bumper too. Just to look cool, but to also have some additional mounting points if need be.

You get that the towing package is not rated to tow the weight of the Bronco, let alone recover it?

I should have been more clear - I have this for my “future” Bronco to use to pull smaller vehicles out, if needed. Not myself. Such as my fiancé’s Mazda if it gets stuck in the snow lol. I still think the factory recovery point on the rear looks flimsy.

I assume the front shackle mounts on the modular bumper are a non issue for pulling the Bronco though, correct? Limited to the shackles weight rating too.

The math that goes into the tow rating has very little to do with a recovery situation, it's a dynamic calculation taking into account the driveline, braking system, suspension and driver aid systems. The rear towing configuration should be strong enough to recover the truck, once... I wouldn't dangle it from a crane or yankum rope it 20x...

Yeah, all that comes into play. I seem to have a hard on for the pitiful towing capacity...

They are through bolted (4x) to the face plate that is welded to the frame, if the demo remains the same. Strong enough for most light recovery situations from what I can tell from stock photos.

Hey, that’s not a bad thing. Calling that out could stop a newbie from making a terrible mistake.

Applied physics. Those of us who have lived enough life get things. Shit we learn through the school of hard knocks. Many don't know what label to put on what we call things that we take as "common sense"...
