I haven't seen any mention or photos of this phenomenon yet. Just today I noticed a honeycomb or snakeskin like pattern starting to appear on most of the rear shell.

Anyone else also experience this? Is it UV related? Reaction with Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax? Something internal? 🤔

You can't feel the texture, it's strictly visual.

Interested in hearing some theories...

What exactly is the MIC top made from? A molded plastic by the name . . . but one owner had mentioned fiberglass, like he was seeing the patterns of the woven cloth . . . For clarification, it is a heat (injection?) molded plastic, not a resin impregnated fiberglass cloth?

Hmm, might be pushing me to drop my top off at the body shop to be painted to match sooner than I thought.
Be hilarious when that pattern shows through the paint and Ford denies the waranty claim because they have no idea what your painter did during prep was to their obviously high quality hard top. 😂

...and if that pattern shows through afterwards?
It very likely may. Painters have had issues with pin stripes that would not go away, The shadows would always re-appear.

Don't give Ford a reason to deny the claim.
Think they won't? Ask anybody that dealt with 6.0 or 6.4 Powerstroke Diesel issues.
Ford used ANYTHING they could to deny claims, including training the techs to look for mods that may have been done.

A bit more info: Issues with thickness uniformity of the 3 layers is what's behind the lamination issues (and these unsightly "thin" spots). There isn't an easy fix at this point.

Watch this space.
What exactly is the MIC top made of? Three layers? Of what, plastic sheets heated/press molded? Injection molding? Laminated fiberglass?

Not good nice looking ride despite def need to figure out
Whoa! Interesting. Definitely seeing the internal honeycomb pattern - weird that it would "emerge" at a later time.

Maybe heat related out in the sun?

SO what does Jeep have that Ford can't duplicate in some sort of way not copy but design / duplicate the resin molding issues

Go back to the steel tops the old school 66-77 Broncos had. Make it one piece but aluminum. Seriously

Crazy how a multi billion dollar company can get so much wrong.

Such a beautiful design it’s a shame we are almost being forced to order something that we don’t want -soft top

...but to hear all the negativity after seeing 1 top, with a problem, which may have been created by the owner...
Holy fuck.
Because of a automotive finish coating?
God damn that's a reach.

If that's all it takes to destroy the hard top that is supposed to live a LONG life out in the elements, I'm fairly certain I don't want one.

Ah seriously? That’s recall territory. I’m sure Ford wants to avoid that at all costs. Having a recall before the majority of year one orders have left the factory I’m sure will not look good to investors. I’m usually pretty positive, but this is a QC nightmare!
Aren't recalls typically only if the issue is safety related? I know years ago I had a Ram 1500 and the plastic dash pad cracked to pieces. This was a common problem and I think there was even a petition to force a recall. It was deemed this was an aesthetic issue and not a safety issue....thus, the recall was never issued.

The more I look at this, the more it just looks like the plastic is semitranspatent.
But what do I know, I'm just standing here staring at it in person and not on a 5" phone screen 😜
