Some encouraging updates... after 4+ hour drive

Yesterday I spent 4+ hours in the Bronco traveling from Middle Tennessee to North Mississippi. Some encouraging notes:

1. I got 22 mpg. Yes it is the computer measurement, which even if 1+ mpg off, still indicates good mileage. Remember: I have 33" tires now.

A few caveats: I was in Eco mode and I was following my wife in a 32ft Winnebago.

2. I spent probably 20 minutes in a torrential downpour. I mean going 40 in a 65 because you can't see. Even with spray from the camper in front of me, no leaks.

I'm at 1500 miles. I plan to change the oil myself while we camp. I'll share anything worth noting.

EDIT: Let me say, too, that it is comfortable to ride in long-distance. I was pleased.

Of course, I'm actually driving 10 minutes to town to turn the oil in at O'Reilly.

realistically, what was oil back then? it was literally dead carbon based matter. it does biodegrade. in small quantities, it should not pose any environmental damage. but if too much was dumped, it becomes a problem. just like just about anything else. a little salt won't kill your grass, but too much will. having a dog fertilizing your back yard is not a bad thing, but too many dogs is. moderation in life is best...

It’s worth noting that spraying of oil is still definitely a thing… just be suspicious of a really good “deal” offered by your local friendly waste hauler.

Just a little info about the mpg computer numbers. I hand checked my Ranger after a 300 mile drive. The computer was off by only 2/10's on the high side. For me that's close enough for government work. Hopefully the Bronco's are that close.

I've never had a modern Ford that was off by even a full 1 mpg. They're fine.

My computer was off by about 1.5 miles on the first tank. But it was pretty accurate for the second. I haven't checked in a while. I'll see when I fill up again.

Its still done. The problem with back when it was done until the mid 70s, was that all that waste oil had tetra-ethyl Lead in it in suspension. So the lead would drain down and into groundwater.

Or worse, the auto shop that did the work had a waste oil furnace and burned the oil releasing aerosolized lead into the air around the shop. Swell.

Same, my Focus ST was never more than 0.2 mpg off so I stopped calculating myself.

What was your thoughts in Eco mode? My Raptor just seem to really retard the throttle and slow roll until you really put your foot down. Assuming the Bronco is the same...
