True, but another advantage is flipping the soft top up in seconds.
yes, which is exactly why I hope some 3rd party will come out with a sunrider like soft top for the 4 door, covering both rows of seats. I asked Bestop a while ago and they had no plans to do so then, maybe some other vendor wants my money?
Would be perfect solution for me, hard top shell in the back, soft top in the front.

Ford Bronco Sunrider Top Softtop.jpg
just like this, but covering both rows of seats, so flipping all the way back. I'm not gonna spend $1k or what the sunrider costs (had it in a rental Wrangler and it's awesome!) if I can't open my Bronco all the way.
The one in the picture just sits on top of the 2nd row panel, so if you take that out too you end up with that floppy roof sitting there like a 'sports' bar on a Wrangler. No thanks, I want the full open sky that sold me on this beast.
Should not be too hard for a smart engineer to figure something out, maybe a flip back first row, then flip a switch and push back 2nd row? Or a double fold or what ever might be possible. Hope somebody smart is working on it, as I have the money waiting to pay for it.
I also won't ever have a roof rack, so while in this photo that would not really work, in my case it would.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve got a new job lined up starting in July but it’ll be 3 months before I get my first “real” paycheck. I’m planning on switching to a soft top in September assuming things are going well at work, hoping for a November/December delivery. I REALLY want to go to KOH this year.

I would be shocked if what you've described isn't already in the blueprint stages of some engineers workshop!

I certainly hope so, got the $ ready to spend! It's a must for this rig, no way around it. And would make the perfect combo for me, dog contained in glass/plastic/fiberglass in the back, front open. Park somewhere in the sun? Flip the roof forward. Day got later than expected? Flip the roof forward and turn on the heater. Rainstorm brewing in the mountains? Same thing. No panels to deal with and the 2nd row panel you can't really have with you in the back anyways.

So, get going engineers! I'm ready to buy! I was surprised when Bestop told me they don't have any plans for that earlier this year. Seems a bit stupid to leave that $ for someone else to grab...

Ford finally broke me too and I switched to soft top. I read the writing on the wall my Wildtrak build wasn't going to get pulled. Now I'm waiting until this Thursday with fingers crossed my build gets pulled 🤞
Did your dealer already make the change?
You went from WT to OBX I'm assuming right?

Yeah dealer did it over the weekend.
Went to Badlands, with Lux and leather. Only did the upgraded 33's though, no sas. I always thought the BL with 33's looked good enough, so I figured I could eliminate another commodity constraint

Good thinking. And I agree. The badlands with 33s is just right 👌

I get it, man.
Current Jeep is a soft top and I absolutely love the convenience.
Zip the windows out, take the top door soft halves off, drop the top and roll.
My last YJ had no top at all until I bought a front seat only bimini cover, which had drawbacks and advantages. Also a blast to drive, when it was driving and running.

I'm staying on the MIC train for whatever reason, and honestly when I examine it, I'm not so sure why myself some days.
I think the draw of the more secure, marginally quieter, quick open air for the front row thing has me hooked. OR hoodwinked.
Again, not sure which. Also more secure, more of a barrier between me and the elements...I just can't really put my finger on what the big deal is.
But whatever it is in my mind, it's a big enough deal I'm staying hard top.
I think in my mind I look at the cost of doing the hard top after the fact, not having the hookups for it, plus the overall look of the factory offerings on S.T. and that's what it is.
But after wheeling on Sunday here with the soft top on my TJ....it really had me second guessing all of that. Again.
But in the end I think I'll stick with the H.T. and see what aftermarket brings to the table.
For me I think it just makes more long-term and better financial sense.
Either way, glad for ya and a bit envious, as I'm sure I will continue to be watching all of you S.T. Bronco guys drop top and roll with ease whist I stop and store hard panels and roll with the cube on until some awesome aftermarket top comes into the playing field.
And as a side note I also mentioned in my thread I posted about the trip Sunday:
These Broncos are going to bring so much to the table with tech that helps us get places.
After my experiences with the 4-lo clutch-brake-gas-rock ledges and mud I am very much looking forward to that one-pedal and underestimated the value of it prior.

But not now. Knowing what I know now I'd order whatever I had to on the Bronco just to get that one option.
And the SBD. It took me 20 minutes with a hammer and prybars to get mine off and they are ziptied up, still off. Interesting hour and half ride home without the SB...but in no way was I laying down and fighting that after riding trails all day, covered in mud.
Ordered a set of JKS quick release end links directly once I got home.
For those who have not experienced some of these things before...the Bronco definitely, definitely brings some user-friendly stuff to the table that will make trail riding and rock gardens so much easier.
Sorry to hijack your top thread...just excited and rambled a bit off-topic.

I'm sure they can do a semi-hard/soft top deal like my tri-fold bed cover on my truck.
Those that have them know what I mean.
You can fold, fold, buckle down, and roll on down the road.
Mine also has two ball-end connector rods to affix it straight up as needed for full open bed use. (not applicable here or you would have some large, 90 degree windsail on top of the Bronco.).
Something like that would be cool to have as a roof option that sits mostly flat when double or tri-folded back, secure with quick latches, and drive on down the road.

Nice mind dump there haha
Appreciate your thoughts tho because a lot of us have gone through a similar exercise. For me I knew I wanted an open top experience but was dead set on hard top for some odd reason.
It could be because I fell in love with the Bronco when I saw the renders of the black mod top a year ago and I stuck to that.

But then when I was forced into MIC, I found a way to mentally accept it. It looks good don't get me wrong... but I'm confused why I never considered soft top before. Is it because I'm simply not used to having one?

But now that I switched over, it feels like such a eureka moment. This is what I wanted all along. Even more, my wife has a hard top BMW that's quiet.. we don't need another.

It's OK for my Bronco to be loud and dirty and adventurous because we already have a quiet smooth-riding clean BMW x3

I just got re excited for the BronCo as I typed this out!!

I still don’t understand with technology and logistics these days why we can’t order both and have them ship the hard tops at a later date. The cost to delay ship will be minimal compared to cost of pissing all these people off. Plus they already gave 1k fir the delay. How about they should have never done that, allowed people to approve a soft top with delayed hard top (which they could bulk ship to minimize cost and set of regional pickup), oh and allow us to pay for the wiring and Ford factory install so that when the hard top shows up we are ready to roll. Doesn’t seem to difficult.
