Was at the local Ford dealership today getting to get a feel for vb in the sun got corned by a couple of sales guys started talking about the Bronco I don't think they had a clue that there were 2 models granted not the dealership where I ordered mine I've purchased 4 vehicles from them and even they were kind of clueless on options and what not I used to sell Toyotas I would like to think I was knowledgeable about the line up and upcoming models just curious if anyone else was running into this issue

I think you will find that they will not talk about "upcoming unreleased products" until they are formally announced. And then, yes, they are very knowledgeable, particularly when they are able to get their hands on them and play.

They also do not work on commission. Car dealership salespeople are likely focused on the cars that they can sell TODAY, because that is the only way they get money to pay their rent and feed their families. Any fanatic is likely going to "out-spec" someone on a single product vs someone who has to focus on many products. Should many know more - yep, but for Bronco, its going to be a long time before they get any units they will be able to sell to someone who has not already reserved it or knows nothing about it.
Car sales are all about repeat business and networking if you don't know what's coming and try to sell what people don't want you won't be doing it long building trust and relationships will pay bills and put food on your table longer than pushing whatever is on the lot

Counterpoint:

Car sales is all about selling something you have on hand to the person who just walked through the door. A repeat sale next year doesn’t mean anything if I can’t close the first time sale today.

Too much competition and internet to focus on the long game. Sure, repeat customers are important, but that pales in comparison to the random people who walk in every day who aren’t sure what they want yet.

Foster relationships, but focus your energy on what you can sell to someone this very moment. If I have 20 min downtime I’m going to brush up on what f150s I have on the lot, not what options can be spec’d on a Bronco that won’t even earn me money for 12 months.

The needs of the industry has changed.. I've heard that most car sales these days is done through the internet and people have done their research before showing up to test drive. Buyers know what they want and simply show up for the final confirmation and transaction. The cars sell themselves so buyers simply need that friendly person who can take care of the paperwork.

Definitely agree with you. I'm now in my late forties, have purchased a dozen cars in my lifetime and have only once used the same dealer twice.

I'm just surprised you lived to tell the story after being "corned" by a couple salesman. Sounds like an awful experience.

judging by the post titles and the questions contained within many of our members here fall into the same catagory as these sales people and this is an enthusiasts forum we cant even be bothered to use a search function button or caps or punctuation despite all the info you could need is already here at least 98% of the time if we are this bad here imagine being the sales guy who does give a shit and has to deal with the 95% of the public that is not enthusiasts who truly dont give a damn or are even incredibly misinformed Its like who leads in that scenario the liars or the ignorants

I think you accidentally a punctuation there.
I think people are getting so used to typing just short, disjointed, or emoji filled thoughts (Twitter, Instagram, etc) that they have totally forgotten that a forum requires complete sentences, with punctuation, to make it readable.

It’s, actually a quicker read; without having to worry. about punctuation or grammar.
