Hi All,
I feel like this should be obvious but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I reserved a 4 door OBX MIC hard top only. Are you able to take off and ride on the highway with just the front three pieces (driver, passenger, rear seats) parts of the top off? In my mind I just keep picturing the back as a parachute if I can't open any of the windows on the large back piece.

thank you!

Unsure. Some thoughts are that the rear clamshell needs to be there for the mid piece to clamp on to, just as the front pieces need the mid section there to clamp on to.

That's how hardtop Wranglers work and you don't see any of them hitting the "air brakes" hard.

I think OP is saying he wants to remove the front 3 panels and leave the clamshell but is worried about the drag being an issue, not the other way around like people usually ask.

If this is the case, it’s no problem. Just make sure it is bolted down and not just resting on the Bronco like a lot of lazy Jeep owners (myself included at times) do. I have seen videos of them blowing off on the highway and they are completely destroyed when they land. Not to mention you could hurt someone else.

Crazy it's just all or nothing with the hard top(if I'm reading right). Would that be the same for Modular?

On the softtop you have the option of just flipping back the front piece right, like on wrangler?

Yes, you can. The first three responses did not carefully read what you asked, they think you are asking about removing just the rear clamshell.
OHHHHH! OP wants to just drive around with the rear clam shell on and nothing else. Whatever floats your boat.

Thank you and yes. my goal would be clamshell only on a lot of times.

No, the first three responses are wrong, they rushed to answer first and misread the question.

I've got two toddlers and my goal is a car safer than a jeep to drive them around in, I rarely have a second set of hands to remove something like the clamshell piece and I worry the softtop will be to loud or to cold for my boys at least for the next few years when I rely on naps on long drives.

Well hell Jake, I did read it wrong. Sorry 'bout that OP. BTW, you can cut down on the buffeting (parachute effect) by just raising the read window on the top. The struts will hold it up.

I was also curious (as others read the OPs post) if you could just run the front parts of the hardtop. Kind of like a hard bimini. I guess that's what ratchet straps are for lol.
