It’s been a while since there was a v-8 thread ? This one is interesting because it’s thought to be in aluminum. It’s narrower than the Coyote too, so there is some possibility it end up in the Bronco. I have had no interest in a V-8 until I saw this, for a host of reasons. Possibly similar in weight, more torque than the 2.7? V-8 sound! Maybe I will lease this time and see if it comes out before goin all in on the 2021?

I thought that too, particularly around the Coyote. Same for the 7.3, made no sense because of weight and durability of the Bronco drivetrain. But the smaller displacement, aluminum construction and use in the Mustang and F150 are all huge changes. Ford just completed Canadian UAW negotiations as well, so they may have some inside details on plant operations. Fun to bench race the idea!

My grandpa would have loved to see this. He worked out of the Essex plant (where the 5.0 is made) down the road for a few years until he move back over to HQ. Was fairly high up in the casting division.

I'll believe it when I see it. I dont want to be Debbie downer but F150 already has 5 engine options,

The 7.3 was made to be a simple heavy duty alternative to a diesel in the super duty trucks. I dont see a need for a similar type engine in an F150 because honestly if you are gonna be working an F150 that hard you should probably be considering a heavy duty.

As far as in the mustang, I dont think it would be efficient enough. They could definitely have it make the power needed, but as far as emissions and fuel economy i think the coyote would be better suited.

It interesting to me as as well. I know the Coyote is running into problems meeting current emissions and fuel standards. They have had to move to the same “tricks” Chevy has used in terms of low tension rings and different piston and cylinder liner materials. This on turn leads to excessive oil consumption and potential durability issues. Apparently with the 10sp you can narrow the operating RPM enough with the pushrod engine that some of the benefits of OHC are limited.

As much as I'd love a 5.0 the proof is in the pudding that the twin snail engines perform just as well.

Agreed. I have had both and the 2.7 is superior IMO to the 5.0. 6.8 aluminum pushrod motor (much better packaging) is a different animal entirely. That design and displacement would be well suited to the Bronco if they build it. No one saw the Godzilla motor coming either. Makes sense they would try and find application for the design to use it across more vehicles. I
Haven’t even finalized my decision on 2.3 vs. 2.7 yet (leaning heavily 2.7) but it is ok to daydream ? .

Who cares if Ford puts the engine in the Bronco. If this engine even exists, it will be available in the Ford racing catalogue for swaps. I’d have to do it that way anyhow, because I’m not driving an automatic Bronco.

can’t wait to see swaps, built motors, big turbos and reenforced 7Mts!

You can't even get a V8 in a Raptor anymore. Why would it be available in a Bronco?

There wasn’t a V8 that could match or exceed the 3.5 EB. (VooDoo being the very expensive, complex exception) Now that motor is being phased out in favor of the 3.0 EB. A 6.8 could be an actual performance improvement. The other huge issue is packaging. The 7.3 Godzilla and subsequently this rumored 6.8 would be much more compact then the 5.0l. They are already putting the 7.3 in Fox chassis where the Coyote doesn’t fit. It overcomes a lot of the 5.0 Coyote limitations.

I personally would not buy a non-forced induction engine ever again. I live at 7,500 feet in Montana and driving a turbo engine makes a huge difference. The 2.3 engine will be superior to the 5.0 at this altitude.

I posted this in the other thread and just wanted to cover my bases:

415 CI sounds delicous! And if anyone has been paying attention I have said this several times. I said they are going to destroke or short deck the Godzilla platform. Aluminums sounds great at the very least for the heads. Given the still large displacement I am not expecting a drop in HP but maybe a drop in TQ. Maybe 425 HP, 440 TQ for the truck version and the Mustang will possibly go up to 475 HP, 450 TQ. Unless the supercharge it then all bets are off. How about an Ecoboost 6.8? Twin turbo V8 as the last V8 gasp in the mustang before electrification comes over from the MachE. I think 600+HP is definitely in the cards for that.

As for the Bronco its a no brainer. However it may be for a full size Bronco yet to be announced.

Also the 7 speed in its beefier form is already tough enough to handle the godzilla 7.3. 510lbft is its limit. I think a different guts n gears, with a trick clutch could handle much more with the aftermarket.
