At this point in time, it's unreal that dealers still don't have the necessary tools for this repair.
Yeah I was pretty annoyed. Even if they don’t have the tool, you’d think that Ford would outline the necessary tool(s) along with the parts needed when a dealer declares the need to do this repair.

They do. This is on your dealer, not Ford.
If the dealer doesn't have the tools that would indicate to me that this is their first go-around with the fix...wouldn't give me a warm fuzzy.

lol - the dealer that worked on my truck claim they put the trans together without the tool. On the test drive they realized they had to pull it apart again. They ordered the tool

Between the TSB success rate and lack of confidence in my dealers service department I have decided not have the TSB done. I have yet to hear of any 7MT failures caused by the rattle. I changed the fluid at 5K miles and confirmed zero metal in the fluid...looked like new. Embrace the rattle.

Too late for me! I’ve also not really heard of any failures due to the rattle. But, it is early on in the life of the vehicle and grinding or rattling noises in the drivetrain are usually not a good thing. So, its a combination of that and the principle. Maybe it won’t lead to anything but I’m not going to let Ford off scot-free. I still have a warranty and they shouldn’t be shipping grinding transmissions for years without a clear solution.

I felt the same on the rattle and would of sworn I was going to find a pile of metal when I changed the fluid. Once I got a look at how clean the fluid was I decided to let it ride. I'll revisit when I get close to the 5yr-60K powertrain warranty. Hopefully everything goes smooth for you and they get you back on the road quickly.

Being that there's finally an updated part for the bad syncro, I let Bronco go into the shop to attempt getting the laundry list of recalls and TSB's done. Well, they put the gerry-rig on the shocks and did the camera again. And supposedly getting the whole transmission replaced by Ford's decision. But it's been sitting at the Dealer since the first of December, and they've had the new transmission since the 20th... Anybody know how long a tranny swap is supposed to take?

If they have the correct required tools shouldn't take more than couple days. Hopefully get you taken care of soon.

Mine took 5 weeks.
EDIT for details: It took them some time to deduce that there was a problem. They were pretty sure that the tranny needed to be replaced, but the tech was out that day so they couldnt confirm, blah blah. Then they had to order the transmission and wait for that to come in, and finally get it installed.

That said, if it's still making the same noises in the cold it was before, I don't notice. I've been happy with it since the replacement.

Sad fact is, dealers don't know how to service manuals. Nobody buys em, nobody drives em. I had it in at the beginning of the week for an oil change before a road trip coming up. When I went to pick it up, I gave the valet or whatever they call their car parkers my key. He went out to the parking lot hunting for it, and after a longer amount of time than I expected, someone else pulled it up for me. I'd bet hard cash that kid doesn't know how to drive a stick. If the dealer employees can't effing drive em, they probably struggle with servicing them.

Replacing the transmission takes roughly ~10 hours. But who knows how many other transmission jobs are ahead of yours. Most dealers only have 1 transmission technician.

Sad fact is, dealers don't know how to service manuals.
Certainly not all dealers, but this is true for a lot of dealers. Most don’t have competent transmission technicians. Which is why you see some being replaced instead of repaired. This isn’t Ford saying to replace it, it’s the dealer finding or make up a way out of repairing it because they can’t lol

I received a more definitive update today after a bunch of back and forth about waiting on parts, tools, getting it in, and needing more parts.

According to the service consultant, they found actual scoring and damage inside the unit so they have reached out to Ford again to opt for a total replacement. 🫠

And to be honest, I find it difficult to find fault with the dealers for it. I'd like to, but I don't feel that's fair. How many vehicles actually OFFER a manual? Mustangs and Broncos from Ford? And most of those are autos, like everything else. If Ford ain't selling them, people ain't bringing em in to service. I can't lie, part of why I bought my Bronco when I did was FOMO. How much longer until there aren't any 2 door, manual vehicles being made? I bought it while I could.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post. As someone who has had a lot of these apart, I would be very surprised if there is actual scoring or any abnormal damage. Not saying it’s impossible. Just unlikely. They use this as a way of simply getting a new unit so they don’t have to rebuild it.

Regardless, it works out in your benefit because now you don’t need to worry about them doing it incorrectly.
