Official max pressure for OEM Goodyear Squatch tires

Apologies if this has been posted before, but I swear I tried a search using tire pressures, stock etc..

Ford recommends 39 psi for the OEM Goodyears.
However Goodyear says the max psi is 35.

What have I missed here? And this is for the Bronco spec OEM tire.

Goodyear is listing the max PSI at the max load rating of 10,140 lbs.

Bronco doesn't come anywhere close to the max load rating. GCWR of the Bronco is around 8700 lbs, with curb weights in the 5,200 lbs range (depending on trim/config of course).

That said, way more comfortable of a ride at 35 PSI, so I wouldn't blame anyone for sticking with that number. Fuel economy may not be as good, but... hey... it's comfy.

There is some fine print on the actual tire wall permitting higher than 35 for certain OEM applications. Can’t recall right now but it might say you can go 10 or 12 psi higher.

Drove off the lot with 40 psi in each tire. 14k miles later doing 5 tire rotations every oil change they all are wearing perfect and I’m averaging 20.8 mpg hand calculated so I left em at 40 psi. Some may say the ride is a tad rough at times but it’s a truck and it beats the heck out of my FJ40 which rode like a Conestoga wagon!

Replying to myself after doing a bit of research, max tire pressure is meant to be used with max load.
So if you are not at max load capacity, you should not be using max pressure. You should be using less.

Goodyear states the max pressure for the tire is 35psi. Which means that is for when max load is being used. So if you are not carrying a total weight of just over 10K lbs, you should be using under max pressure -under 35 psi.
Which means Ford's recommendation of 39psi is way too high as that already is 4psi greater than what Goodyear is saying is max pressure.

What am I missing here?

I was skeptical at first with Ford saying 39PSI...but I have 35,000 miles on my 2023 Badlands Sasquatch 2 door and the tires are wearing perfectly on all four tires. I do oil and rotate every 5000 miles at the dealership for $85.00 which I think is fair. The ride may be a little stiff but I like it. I'm sticking with cold tire pressure of 39psi. I am sure I'll get 50,000 out of my stock 35 x 12.50 Good year factory Sasquatch tires.

It means there is a conflict of interests and goals, between lawyers for different corporations interpreting legality and precedent, and between the history of rating methodology.

Goodyear has to follow standard industry practice, Ford and the EPA want your tires over inflated so they can meet their goals, and consumers want to have reasonable comfort and performance and durability.

If you purchased your bronco to get the best mileage out of it as you can, over inflate them to 39 or 42 or even higher….

if you purchased your bronco for other reasons and want to get reasonable on road performance but don’t want a wagon wheel ride, set it between 32 and about 35

if you purchased your bronco to off-road or spend time on county roads, set it from 28 to 32, or whatever who cares you’ll be airing down anyways

Yes, this has been covered multiple times here.

The important part is that there is some fine print on the tire (at least on mine), right under where it says "territory MT", that says that you can put in up to 10 psi additional pressure. A different place with other fine print specifically states something about following the owner's manual. I'm not sure if that means the vehicle owner's manual, or if the tires were supposed to have a manual too.

I like to keep the pressure somewhere near 39 on the highway, but I drop down to 18-20 psi off road, so I'm frequently changing the pressure. I'll set them back to 39-40 when I'm getting back on pavement and the next morning they'll show 36. I'm fine with that and don't bother fiddling with the pressure as long as it's between 35 and 40. The pressure changes as the tires get warmer or colder, and I find it interesting to watch them change.

I keep mine at 35. Yes, the ride might be better at 32, but I just did my third 5 tire rotation this afternoon at roughly 22,500 miles (I rotate every 7500). The tires are wearing evenly and have at least another 22.500 in them.

Took a peek at the rotors and pads, and I wouldn't be surprised if the brakes last to 100K. While at it I took a look at the undercarriage. No seepage from the shocks or tranny, nothing from the front diff, transfer case or axles. There is a tiny amount of seepage from the rear diff's fill port, but it's just a tiny circle around the plug - no drips on the garage floor - so I'm not concerned at this time. It does bear watching, though to see if it gets worse.

That seems like an excessive amount of tire rotations in a single afternoon, but if it works it works.

I run 34-35 psi depending on temperature.
48k miles in 26 months, rotate all 5 every oil change.
Wearing even with around half the tread left.
