Glossy or natural tires

My ‘25 Badsquach was delivered by the dealer with a coating of greasy and very glossy tire shine. I brushed past the spare and it coated my clothes with black gunk. 3 passes with car wash soap removed enough shine that I was willing to let my Jeep friends see it. NO GLOSS allowed on an off-road machine and questionable even on a mall cruiser. My ride’s tires have since then acquired the usual brownish tinge which is remarkably compatible with its Marsh Gray (aka Chocolate Mousse) outer coat.

lol.... must be a dealer thing....same thing happened to me! What ever that s^%# is they use, it doesn't wash out!

You’re probably right but I still like glossy. Especially when the Bronco is clean.

I prefer shiny tires because they appear newer; however, I dislike that the gloss splatters onto the sides of my Raptor due to the wide tires, regardless of how long I allow it to dry.

my rig is black, rarely washed & covered in pinstripes, so tire dressing feels like a complete waste.
I like the "just got off the trail" look

Mine generally look like this. The fine silty clay out in Uwharrie doesn’t come out.

Dark Fury to clean the tire and rims. Diluted 4to1. So for $30 you get 5 gallons worth!

Then top off your tires with Aqua Gloss. It’s water based it dries quickly with no sling and more importantly no build up! Depending on how much shine you want, use it full strength or dilute as much as you need. Personally I dilute it 2to1. So I’m getting 3 gallons of tire shine for $40

At minimum look into their Formula 4 spray wax. It’s a game changer for drying your car.

The truck is black and white, the black is a wrap that the dealer had installed with the wheels, so I bought it this way new.

Depends on the vehicle and tire.

Consistent satin looks good on truck/suv tires
Satin to semi-glossy on a muscle or sports car looks great.
The ultra-glossy "mirror finish" look is not my thing

What I do not like is a gross, faded, stained-by-mud, dry-rotted look on any tire. Living in SC, there is red mud everywhere from clay. It's not uncommon to see a half-mile of red mud tire tracks every time someone leaves their mud-pit of a driveway after mowing their dirt, and that crap stains tires like you wouldn't believe.

I live in NC, and my tires are permanently brown as you described. Just one less thing for me to bother washing.

I feel your pain... Especially after Helene
It would take another hurricane just to wash the dirt out from the first one, and none of us want to do through that again...

Prior to Helene, it was just "mud-trucks" carelessly dragging clay onto the roads. I was headed to a car cruise-in for charity in the Mach 1 and couldn't avoid muddy tire tracks in the road. The whole side of my car and the tires were red from clay.

I don't care, BUT this as a warning to NOT use Armor All tire dressing. A detailer I used to work with said it's pretty common knowledge that something in their formula actually causes deterioration.

I used to work for a chemical company that manufactured the base product for Armor All. It is hydrofluoric acid.

Yes, I worked for a Fluorine company that made Fluoride for toothpaste, Stannous Fluoride for water treatment, Lithium Fluoride for batteries, and the base chemical in Armor All. HF is nasty stuff.

no kidding - never wouldve thought. We ran HF on one of our acid lines to etch titanium. made it ourself at the plant. agreed it is not good stuff. remember the fridge full of calcium gluconate
